Analyze
1. For a teacher to be great, is it enough to possess the professional competencies to
plan a lesson, execute a lesson plan, manage a class, assess learning, compute and
report grades? Explain your answer.
No. I believe that a teacher must also be passionate, determined and goal-
oriented so that everything that is planned will be possible and realized. We
should always possess values and wisdoms in order to cater our students
needs.

2. For a teacher to be great, which is more important - personal qualities or professional

competencies?
I believe that it should be tye professional competencies, however we
should not also set aside our personal qualities because it also contributes to
our success as an educator. For example, we could be able to understand and
determine our students if we are able to mingle with them. As for being
professional, it is an advantage and would be a great help to avoid bias.

3. Who are the teachers that we remember most?

As for me, tye teacher that I remember the most is not the one who is the
most approachable. Not the one who likes to mingle with students and not that
one we always see in the campus. In my case, it is the teacher who looks terror,
unapproachable and who is very professional in giving remarks. Oftentimes,
these kind of teachers will give us the exact grades that we deserve, but at the
same time we could also learn a lot of values, wisdom and knowledge and that
we do not get from other teachers very close to us. These kind of teachers are
those who would scare us but will eventually teach us something we do not think
we needed.

Reflect

Which personal traits do I possess? Not possess? Where do I need improvement in?

I believe that I possess understanding, kindness and the way I see things with
silver lining. However, I also think that I do not have the luxury of patience especially
when me, being understanding is taken advantage. Moreover, I guess I needed to
improve more the way I connect to people and to set aside the professionalism from
personal things because I like being professional at all times to the point where I
forget that people slso have feelings and that I should need to consider that.

Which professional competencies am I strongly capable of demonstrating?

It would be when to be considerate and in what instances I should not

consider things. I think that we should be considerate oftentimes because we do not
know how people deal with their personal lives. However, we should also learn how
to set our rules and follow them. For me, that is what I am strongly capable of
demonstrating.

In which competencies do I need to develop more?

As what I have said in the previous question, it is how I connect to people and to
not be always professional in some circumstances because people has also feelings
that we have to reconsider.

Who are the teachers that we remember most?

Like what I previously state, it is the teacher who might look unapproachable nd
do not like to mingle a lot with students. These are the kinds of teachers that I believe
we remember the most. We remember them not just negatively, but also in a positive
aspects. For instance, these teachers will scare our nerves but once we get to know
them more, once we experience how to be handled by them, we will surely learn a lot of
things that oftentimes we do not get from others.

Attach your reflection here.

Being a good teacher is not just about being the most brilliant educator the school
could have. I believe that an effective teacher is someone who knows how to connect and
adapt to his or her students. An effective teacher is someone who gives impact to their
students. An impact that is helpful and relevant as their students go along with their
journey.

This episode taught be about being an effective educator and being a credible
source of wisdom, values and learnings to my students. It taught me how to deal with
everything professionally and that being an effective teacher is also being a fighter, patient
and kind. An effective teacher does not only teach prolly about academics alone, but also
gives wisdom and values to their students. Wisdom that the students could apply to their
lives, and values that the students will bring as they grow older. An effective teacher is
also intellectually aware, sensitive and adaptive. He or she is respectful, understanding,
patient and kind. An effective teacher must also be aware about fairness and not biased.

Soon as I become a teacher, I hope and I pray that I could be effective and
credible. I hope that I could provide wisdom and values to my students and that I could be
an amazing role model to them. In this episode, I have learned that being an effective
teacher does not only mean being an achiever in academics, but also achiever in life
outside the school.
