I want you to think of being on a ship looking for land.
You find a strange land that no one has every seen. As
you explore you realize that you are not the only person
on this strange land. There are actually villages and
families covering this land. What do you do? Do you
try to learn about the land from these people or do you
try to claim it as your own? What would you do if you
were these villagers? Would you help the newcomers or
would you fight for them to leave?
Big Idea

Today we will learn about some important

men in our world's history. We will talk
about John Cabot claiming land for England,
even though it had people already living
there. Cartier's discovery of Canada as we
know it today. Spain and England's War,
and how the world had changed by the end
of the 16th century.

Extension

For homework I want you to try different foods that

you have in your house. I want you to see how it tastes
and then, I want you to salt and dry these same foods.
How do they look after a couple of days? A week? Two
weeks?
Would this be something you would want to eat?
Could you imagine living off of foods like this?
Or would you simply try to catch fresh food everyday?
How would eating like this make you feel?
Thank you!
