Abstract:
LISA Library Information Science Abstract and Library Herald are important International and
National are quality work periodical. The research proposed to focus on comparative citation
analysis of those journal. Bibliometric analysis is powerful tool in order to identify the emerging
topics and trends and analyse co-occurrence of keyword and phrase. It is used for better
understanding and communicate the development of Library information field. The comparative
study of the resource reveals the similarity and differences in form of information resource.
1. Introduction:
Periodical and scientific journals are one of the ways to keep the researcher, professional and
teacher to be up-to date with current development in subject. The present study is focused on
the study of list of e-journals specifically Library and Information Science Abstract and Library
herald.
It reveals predominant area in popular topic of research being used during particular period.
Journal also provide specific information about author research which could be useful for
analysing authorship of journal article.
Alan Pritchard was the first who gave alternative term to Statistical bibliography which is
Bibliometric. According to Alan Pritchard “Bibliometric studies which seek to quantify the process
of written communication.”
The term “bibliometrics” has two roots: “biblio” and “metrics”. The term biblion equivalent to
bylos which is derived from a city of phenonicia, noted city for export of trade in paper.
Bibliometric studies include studies of growth of literature in subject, how much literature is
contributed by individual, group or Organisation or countries; how much exists in various
languages. It also studies how subject is scattered along with studies of how quickly literature
become out-of-date (studies of Obsolesce).
The backbone of Bibliometrics lies in Strong theoretical foundation. These theories are laid down
by Lotka, Bradford, Zipf, Brookes, Bookstein
Bradford’s Law of Scattering: It was propounded by Samuel Clement Bradford, A British Librarian,
mathematician at science museum in London after laborious study of scientific literature in mid
1930.
Zip’s Law: George Kinsley Zipf the American linguist saw the work of Estoup’s book and worked
further on it and arrived at his law in 1935. According to this “if the number of different words
occurring once in a given sample is taken as x, the number of different words occurring
progression according to inverse square.
Lotka’s Law: The Alfred J Lotka, a statistician of metropolitan Life insurance company, USA study
the men of different calibre contribute to progress of science. Accordingly, it was observed that a
greater number of authors contributed a smaller number of papers.
3. Statement of Problem:
“Comparative Bibliographic analysis of LISA and Library Herald 2004-2024”
According to Jagdish Vyas (2017), Attempt was done in order to “Study Bibliometric of
Electronic theis in Library and Information Science on Shodhganga Repository”. The
Work shows the relative increase in Number of PHD thesis over peiod of time in central as
well as state university. The emerging topic of work include Library Automation and
networking, Digital Library, Information Literacy, Academic libraries, public libraries,
bibliometric and Sciento-metric etc.
According to Sur Chandra Singha(2022), systematic study of “content analysis and Design
trends of library website of agricultural universities in India” is done. Content analysis as a
well known branch of Bibliographic analysis is Qualitative tool. The result shows the
Tools and service along with their usefulness through website’s content.
Although the numerous work has been done still no systematic work is done in order to
understand the comparative bibliographic analysis of LISA and Library herald with the
emphasis on impact of Covid 19.
5. Objective of Study:
The Objective of Study to identify
a. To prepare comparative List of authors
b. To find out comparative difference between type of content
c. To study reference style used by journal
d. To check indexing status of journal
e. To analyse impact factor
f. To analyse research paper by subject and year with emphasis on impact of pandemic
6. Hypothesis of Study:
a. There is spike in literature regarding electronic and digital library in Covid 19.
b. Overall Contribution of Indian LIS professional will be relatively less.
7. Scope of Study
The Time period of Journal will be last 20 years from 2003 to 2023
The Study restricted to following Journals
LISA Library and Information Science Abstract
Library Herald
8. Importance of Study
The focus of the study will be on LISA and Library herald. The research will help the library
professional to understand the emerging trends in libraries. It will support emerging ideas
according to library science.
