Role play for single loop learning

Context: The Manager has invited a senior designer who is repeatedly using the same
designs and layout for client presentation. As a manager you are concerned that clients are
rejecting proposals as the presentations lack creativity and use of innovative info graphics to
present data and the proposal.
Manager : Hi Good Morning! How you doing today?
Designer : I am doing fine, thank you! Hope you are doing well.
Manager : How is work progressing…hope you are able to handle the timelines
Designer : yes thank you, yes I am able to meet timelines, initially I did face a some issues,
I was wondering how I can get it to the next level…
I experimented with some techniques of making creative presentations …
but now I have come up with a structured approach of making the presentations,
I have created some standard template that I use and the moment the proposal comes to
me, I put the text in the ppt and submit it to the sales team.
I have re-imagined ways of presenting these slides to different clients
Manager : I wish you would have come and mentioned about the problems you faced…
I would have appreciated that you come and share your concerns with me.
Designer : No its fine, I did my research, I looked at some presentation templates and was
able to do
Manager : Yes but it is a matter of concern, the clients have shared feedback that the
presentations lack creativity, the data visualisation is limited and each presentation looks the
same.
I really want you to think, what you can do to give the presentations a new look and feel.
I am concerned that your this approach will work short term but not help you be innovative,
grow new capability and be efficient …We will not be able to make the process better
You must need to think how different is each customer and the task
How can I make things better …what is the purpose
