4. FIRST AID MEASURES

INHALATION : Remove victim to fresh air and keep in a rest position, comfortable for breathing. If not breathing, if
breathing is irregular or if respiratory arrest occurs, provide artificial respiration or oxygen by trained
personnel. Get medical attention if adverse effects persist or are severe. If case of inhalation of
decomposition products in a fire, symptoms may be delayed. The exposed person may need to be kept
under medial surveillance for 48 hours. If necessary, call a poison centre or doctor.
SKIN CONTACT : Wash contaminated skin with plenty of water. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes. Wash
contaminated clothing thoroughly with water before removing it, or wear gloves. Continue to rinse for at
least 10 minutes. If skin irritation occurs, get medical advice. In the event of any complaints or
symptoms, avoid further exposure. Wash clothes before re-use. Clean shoes thoroughly before re-use.

EYE CONTACT : Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water, occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Remove
contact lenses, if present and easy to do so. Continue rinsing for at least 10 minutes. If eye irritation
persists, get medical advice.
INGESTION : Rinse mouth with water. Remove dentures, if any. Remove victim to fresh air and keep at rest position,
comfortable for breathing. If material has been swallowed and the exposed person is conscious, give
small quantities of water to drink. Stop if the exposed person feels sick as vomiting may be dangerous.
Do not induce vomiting unless directed to do so by medical personnel. If vomiting occurs, the head
should be kept low so that vomit does not enter the lungs. Get medical attention if adverse health
effects persist or are severe. If necessary, call a poison centre or doctor.
SPECIAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT FOR FIRST AIDERS

If it is suspected that fumes are still present, the rescuer should wear appropriate mask or self-contained breathing apparatus. It
may be dangerous to the person providing aid to give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
INDICATIONS OF IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION & SPECIAL TREATMENT NEEDED

Treat symptomatically. Contact poison treatment specialist if large quantities have been ingested or inhaled. Never give anything
by mouth to an unconscious person. If unconscious, place in recovery position and get medical attention immediately. Maintain
Page 2 of 7

an open airway. Loosen tight clothing such as a collar, tie, belt or waistband. No action must be taken involving any personal risk
or without suitable training.

5. FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES
EXTINGUISHING MEDIA : Water spray, carbon dioxide or dry chemical powder
SPECIAL PROTECTIVE ACTIONS

In a fire, or if heated, a pressure increase may occur and the container may burst. Promptly isolate the scene by removing all
persons from the vicinity of the incident if there is a fire. No action must be taken involving any personal risk or without suitable
training. Keep containers cooled by spraying with large amounts of water from a safe distance. Exercise caution when fighting
any chemical fire.
Fire-fighters should wear appropriate protective equipment and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) with a full-face
respirator operated in positive pressure mode.
SPECIFIC HAZARDS

The product is not combustible under normal conditions, and not considered to be a fire risk. Decomposition products may include
the following materials:

• Carbon dioxide
• Carbon monoxide
• Nitrogen oxides
• Formaldehyde
6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS

No action must be taken involving any personal risk or without suitable training. Do not touch or walk through spilled material.
Avoid breathing vapour. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practices.
Provide adequate ventilation. Wear appropriate respirator when ventilation is inadequate. Put on appropriate personal protective
equipment.
If specialised clothing is required to deal with the accidental release, take note of any information in Section 8 on suitable and
unsuitable materials.
ENVIRONMENTAL PRECAUTIONS

Avoid dispersal of spilled material and runoff and contact with soil, waterways, drains and sewers. Do not discharge directly into
a water course. If accidental spillage or washings enter drains or water courses, contact the relevant authorities.
CONTAINMENT & CLEANUP

SMALL SPILL – Stop leak if without risk. Move containers from spill area. Dilute small spills with water and mop up if water soluble.
Alternatively, or if water-insoluble, absorb with an inert, dry material immediately and place in an appropriate waste disposal
container. Disposal containers must be properly labelled with correct contents and hazard symbols. Dispose of safely via a
licenced waste disposal contractor.
LARGE SPILL – Approach release from upwind. Prevent entry into sewers, water courses, basements or confined spaces. Absorb
and/or contain with inert material. Wash spillages into an effluent treatment plant. Do not use water to clean the area until
recyclable resin has been removed.
After the spillage has been cleaned, wash the contact area with warm water (preferably warm urea water) and discard the wash
water the same as the resin. Contaminated absorbent material may pose the same hazard as the spilled product. See Section 13
for waste disposal considerations.
EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

Evacuate surrounding areas. Keep unnecessary and unprotected personnel from entering.

7. HANDLING AND STORAGE

Persons with a history of skin sensitisation problems should not handle this product. Put on appropriate personal protective
equipment (see Section 8). Eating, drinking and smoking should be prohibited in areas where this material is handled, stored and
processed. Do not handle until all safety precautions have been read and understood. Handle in accordance with good industrial
hygiene and safety procedures. Wash hands and other exposed areas with mild soap and water before eating, drinking or
smoking, and again when leaving work. Do not get in eyes or on skin or clothing. Do not breathe vapour. Do not ingest. Avoid

release to the environment. Use only with adequate ventilation. Wear appropriate respirator when ventilation is inadequate. Do
not enter storage areas and confined spaces unless adequately ventilated.
Store between 20ºC and 30ºC, preferably close to 25ºC as this will increase the shelf life of the product. Store in accordance with
local regulations. Store in original container protected from direct sunlight in a dry, cool and well-ventilated area, away from
incompatible materials and food and drink. Keep containers closed until ready for use and check regularly for leaks. Containers
that have been opened must be carefully resealed and kept upright to prevent leakage. Do not store in unlabelled containers. Use
appropriate containment to avoid environmental contamination.

8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION

ENGINEERING CONTROLS

Good general ventilation should be sufficient to control exposure to airborne contaminants. Use process enclosures, local exhaust
ventilation or other engineering controls to keep exposure below any recommended or statutory Occupational Exposure Limits.
Ensure that all national / local regulations are observed.

Emissions from ventilation or work process equipment should be checked to ensure they comply with requirements of
environmental legislation. In some cases, fume scrubbers, filters or engineering modifications to the process equipment may be
necessary to reduce emissions to acceptable levels.
PROTECTION MEASURES & PPE

EYE / FACE PROTECTION : Chemical resistant eye protection should be used when a risk assessment
indicates this is necessary to avoid exposure to liquid splashes or mists. Ensure
that eyewash stations and safety showers are close to the workstation location.
SKIN / HAND / BODY PROTECTION : Chemical resistant, impervious gloves should be worn when handling chemical
products if a risk assessment indicated this is necessary. Overalls, footwear and
any additional skin protection measures should be selected based on the task
being performed and the risks involved.
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION : Use a properly fitted, air-purifying or air-fed respirator if a risk assessment indicates
this is necessary. Respirator selection must be based on known or anticipated
exposure levels, the hazards of the product and the safe working limits of the
selected respirator. If operating conditions cause high vapour concentrations or the
OEL is exceeded, use a NIOSH-certified, supplied-air respirator, inorganic gases /
vapour filters (type B).

THERMAL HAZARDS : Not applicable
