Final Exam - 2nd Attempt
Q1 (20 Marks):
A 200 KW, 400 V separately excited dc motor runs at 750 rpm. It has 920 lap connected conductors.
The full load armature copper loss is 8 KW. Calculate the useful flux per pole.
Q2 (20 Marks):
A 4 pole three phase induction motor operates from a 50 Hz three phase supply. If the slip is 4%,
calculate the speed of the stator magnetic field, rotor magnetic field and the frequency of the rotor
when the slip is 5%.
Q3 (20 Marks):
For the circuit shown in Fig. 1, determine the total current and current in each branch.
1Ω 1Ω
100 0 V
XC =2 Ω
XL=1 Ω

Q4 (20 Marks):
A single phase 50 Hz transformer has 100 turns and 200 turns on the primary and secondary winding
respectively. The cross sectional area (A) of the core is 200 cm2. If the primary winding is connected to a 200V
supply, determine:
Q5 (20 Marks):
A. What is the difference between lap winding and wave winding? (10 Marks)
B. Explain why the three-phase induction motors are the most common and frequently
encountered machines in industry? (10 Marks)
GOOD LUCK!
