The Oral Examination: Job interviews

The exam will hopefully be a dialogic oral examination i.e a job interview.

The assessment task:


a job interview.

The assessment criteria:


Students will hopefully be tested basically on speaking and communication skills.

Ideally assessment will take into account:

Soft skills are pivotal ( as a theory, a set of invisible skills and a practice).

Non-verbal communication is highly recommended ( gestures, body language, eye-


contact, posture …).

Fluency ,too, is key in the present assessment : students should be fluent when expressing
themselves, describing their profiles, future plans….

Other elements are:

Higher-order thinking and synthesis ( reason and coherence of ideas).

Applied problem –solving.

Depth of knowledge ( competencies and qualities).

Ability of students to think on their feet ( to be organized and functioning).

N.B :Students should bring their CVs( in English)in the day of the
exam.
Work
Individual.

In pairs (it is possible).

Planning

Stick rigidly to planned timing. The speech will take 5 to 10 minutes for each learner.

Students are supposed to work with time limitations in mind (Stick to questions and provide
only the useful information ).

The scale will be :

Content(knowledge, information, explanation, illustrations i.e relevance,clarity and


creative ideas...)=40%(8 pts).
Performance( fluency, soft skills, verbal and non-verbal communication)=40%(8pts).
Language (accuracy, pronunciation, choice of words...)=20%(4pts).

2. Walk me through your resume.
3. Why should we hire you?
4. What can you bring to the company?
5. What are your greatest strengths ?
6. What do you consider to be your weaknesse(s)?
7. What is your greatest achievement(s)?
8. What did you do last year to improve your knowledge?
9. Do you prefer working independently or on a team?
10.When you are balancing multiple projects, how do you keep yourself
organized?
11.Tell me about a challenge or conflict you have faced at work and how
you dealt with it.
12.Tell me about a time you demonstrated leadership skills.
13.How do you deal with pressure or stressful situations.
14.What are your salary expectations?
15.Where do you see yourself in 5 years.
