“WASTE MANAGEMENT INITIATIVES AND WASTE DISPOSAL PRACTICES

IN BARANGAY TAMBAK, LAMBAYONG, SULTAN KUDARAT”

ABSTRACT
The study on “Waste Management Initiatives and Waste Disposal Practices in

Barangay Tambak, Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat”, focused to determine the strength of

relationship between initiatives implementation and waste disposal practices of

household and to test significant differences in the waste disposal practices of

households based on the age and gender of the respondents. Study was descriptive-

evaluative and correlational research design in nature. A survey was conducted using

validated researcher-made instrument to randomly selected one hundred (100)

households. Data analysis employed Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient

and z-test for the test of relationship and significant difference, respectively.

Findings revealed that the waste management initiatives in terms of policies and

programs/projects implementations were both perceived with “high degree of

implementation” by the respondents. Whereas, the waste management practices was

perceived “moderate degree of practice”. The correlation R-value showed “low positive

relationship” for policies implementation and waste disposal practices and “moderate

positive relationship” for programs/projects implementation and waste disposal practices

of the households. However, the influence of both policies and program/projects

implementations to waste disposal practices of households were statistically significant

at p<0.01 level of significance.

The findings revealed that there is a significant difference in the waste disposal

practices between two age groups at p<0.05 level of significance. The results revealed
that “adult (31-59 y/o)” individuals are properly practicing waste disposal compared to

“young adults (18-30 y/o)”, implying that as respondents age, they gain a range of

awareness and knowledge on proper waste disposal put into practice. Analysis of

gender showed no significant differences in their practice of waste disposal.

SUMMARY

The study investigated waste disposal practices in Barangay Tambak,

Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat, finding that there was a weak positive relationship

between waste management policies and practices, a moderate positive relationship

between programs and practices, and that adults had better waste disposal practices

compared to gender.

EXPLANATION:

There was a weak positive relationship between waste management policies and

practices. This implies that the existence of waste management policies in the

barangay, such as regulations and guidelines for waste disposal, was associated with

slightly better waste disposal practices among the residents. However, the relationship

between these policies and actual practices was not very strong, suggesting that other

factors may influence how waste is managed. The study found a moderate positive

relationship between programs and practices. This means that the implementation of

waste management programs in Barangay Tambak, such as education campaigns or

recycling initiatives, was associated with more favorable waste disposal practices. The

strength of this relationship suggests that these programs may have a more significant

impact on improving waste disposal practices than policies alone.
