THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

INTRODUCTION

Sustainable development has become a pressing issue

globally as societies strive to balance economic growth,

environmental conservation, and social equity. The

concept of sustainable development involves meeting the

present needs without jeopardizing future generations'

ability to meet their own needs. Hence, understanding

household members' attitudes and practices towards

environmental conservation is critical in achieving

sustainable development.

This study will assess the level of environmental

awareness and practices of household members in

Barangay San Francisco in Naga City, Philippines, and

explore the implications of their attitudes and

behaviors towards sustainable development. By examining

the household level attitudes and practices, the study

will provide insights into the factors that promote or

inhibit environmentally sustainable behavior,

contributing to a deeper understanding of sustainable

development's challenges and opportunities at the local

level.

The Philippines faces significant environmental

challenges such as deforestation, pollution, and

climate change. The government has implemented policies

and programs to promote sustainable development, but

awareness and practices in local communities such as

Barangay San Francisco. This study aims to fill this

gap and inform local policies and programs aimed at

promoting sustainable development in the community.

The findings of this study can provide valuable

insights that can serve as a model for similar

assessments in other local communities worldwide.
