God needed a man who would be a fit representative of the

principles and policies of heaven at the court of Babylon so he

chose Daniel to be his personal ambassador to Nebuchadnezzer.
The means god employed to bring Daniel a captive to the
favourable attention of Nebuchadnezzer, and the means by which
Nebuchadnezzer came to have confidence, first in Daniel and then
in Daniel’s god, illustrate the manner in which god uses men today
to accomplish his will on earth. God could use danie;l because
Daniel was a man of principle a man of sterling character a man
whose chief business in life was to live for god. Pg.751. bk.

Besides avoiding unclean food, the use of luxurious and unhealthful
food and drink was contrary to strict principles of temperance
10 days of quick physical change indicates they were already
practising the principles and now were in the days of the effects
being realized. The end of the period found them with good
physical appearance, physical activity and mental vigour.
God honoured these youngmen because of their unswerving
purpose to do what was right. The approbation of god was more
dearer to them than the favour of the most powerful earthly
potentate dearer even than life itself. Nor had the first resolution
been born under the pressure of immediate circumstances. From
childhood, these young men had been trained in strict habits of
temperance.
Daniel didn’t refuse the food just to be singular, he always sought
to live at peace with all and to cooperate to the fullest extent
possible with his superiors as long as such cooperation did not
require him to sacrifice principle. When fealty to Jehovah was
involved, he was willing to sacrifice worldly honour, wealth, and
position, even life itself. Pg.761.
How they avoided conflict in the conflicting sciences and
philosophies between Babylonian and Hebrews we aren’t told, but
despite the corrupting influences, tthey held fast to the faith of
their fathers as later tests of loyalty clearly show. They learned the
skills and sciences of Chaldeans without adopting the heathen
elements mingled with them.
Their firm resolution is to remain true to god.
The superior wisdom of Daniel and his friends was not a result of
chance or destiny or even a miracle. The young men applied
themselves diligently and consciously to their studies and god
blessed their endeavours. True success in any undertaking is
assured when divine and human effort is combined.
It was the age when most of the young men in the capital of Judah
were wild and reckless. They were excusing themselves because of
their youth. But god chose from their midst certain ones whom he
could trust in a foreign land.
They might have reasoned and excused their failure that they were
compelled because this was a king’s demand and they were in a
foreign land.
How did they know beforehand that the outcomes would be as
they expected and as they promised the master? Its faith in god.
God allows his people to pass through experiences that can help
them to practice strict health principles. Gaining victory over
appetite is a great battle. Appetite was the doorway through which
all evil and sin entered the world. The first temptation of Christ.
They were faithful in little things and god honored them with bigger
responsibility
Training from youthhood is what catholics do and their youth will
not convert.
