The Very Hungry Caterpillar

In the light of the moon

A little egg lay on a leaf.

One Sunday morning

The warm sun came up and – pop!
Out of the egg came a tiny
And very hungry caterpillar.
He started to look for some food.

On Monday he ate through one apple .

But he was still hungry.
On Tuesday he ate through two pears,
But he was still hungry.

On Wednesday
he ate through three plums,
But he was still hungry.

On Thursday
He ate trough four strawberries,
but he was still hungry
On Friday
He ate through five rranges,
But he was still hungy.

On Saturday,
He ate through one piece of chocolate cake ,
One ice- cream cone,
One pickle, one slice of Swiss cheese,
One slice of salami,
One lollipop, one piece of cherry pie,
One sausage, one cupcake,
And one slice of watermelon .

That night he had a stomachache.

The next day was Sunday again.
The caterpillar ate through
One nice green leaf,
And after that he felt so much better.

Now he wasn’t hungry anymore-

and he wasn’t a little caterpillar anymore.
He was a big, fat caterpillar.

He built a small house, called a cocoon,

Around himself. He stayed inside for more than two weeks.
Then he nibbled a hole in the cocoon,
Pushed his way out and out came a beautiful butterfly.
“Don’t Quit”
By: Edgar Albert Guest

When Things go wrong / as they sometimes will,

When the road you’re trudging
/ seems all uphill,When funds are low /and debts are high,
And you want to smile / but have to sigh.

When care / is pressing / you down a bit,

Rest! / If you must / but don’t you quit
Life is queer / with its twist and turns,
As everyone / of us / sometimes learns,
And many / a failure / turns about,
When he might have won / if he’d snuck out,
Don’t give up! / Though the pace seems slow,
You might succeed / with another blow.

Often the struggler / has given up,

When he might have captured / the victor’s cup,
And he learned too late / when the night slipped down,
Oh how close he was / to the golden crown.

Success is failure / turned inside out,

The silver tint / of clouds / of doubt
And you can never tell / how close you are,
It may be near / when it seems afar.
So stick to the fight! / When your hardest hit,
It’s when things / Seem worst! / That you must / not quit.
SA MATA NG ISANG BATA

Musmos pa man ako’t batang walang malay,

Ang bisig at isip ay aking iaalay.
Pagsulong bayan layuning Dalisay,
Lipuna’y baguhin mithiin kong tunay.

Tinig ko’y batingaw… sigaw ay paggising,

Mga maling gawi itama’t ayusin.
Ipunla n’yo sa isip at aking damdamin,
Ang bukang- liwayway ay para sa akin.

Isang bagong umaga na puno ng pag-asa,

Walang paghihirap maging pagdurusa.
