Climate Change and Biology Culminating

For this task, you will be responsible for researching a topics to educate your peers via infographics. You will
need to create 2 DETAILED INFOGRAPHICS to inform your peers on how climate change is affecting your
chosen topic and human anatomy.

Step 1:
Select a topic. In the list below, there are some possible topics to research. If you are passionate about
something else, consult with the teacher to get approval for your topic.
Potential Topics:
• Acid precipitation (specific area)
• Increase in ocean temperatures and its effect on habitat (coral reefs, algae blooms, species loss, etc.)
• Acid leaching (specific area)
• Solar gas
• Issues presented by the phosphate fertilizer industry
• Issues presented by the automobile industry (be specific, or include all)
• Biofuels
• Bioplastics and light-weight plastics (used in t he manufacture of cars)
• “green insulating” materials
• Alternative fuels
• Loss of land habitat (polar ice caps, agricultural affects, desertification, species loss etc.)
• Increase in Natural Disasters (floods, forest fires, extreme weather events, seasonal changes, etc.)
• Topic of your choice with teacher approval

Research how your topic can affect human anatomy. (i.e Alberta tar sands cause respiratory diseases and
cancer). Provide detailed background information about the how your topic affects human anatomy.

Step 2:
a) Find a Ted Talks or Youtube video that is related to Climate change. Prepare 5 questions and answers that
you feel are the important points of the video. You will be marked on the depth of your questions and answers.
Include video link.
b) a) Find a Ted Talks or Youtube video that is related to the Biology component. Prepare 5 questions and
answers that you feel are the important points of the video. You will be marked on the depth of your questions
and answers. Include video link

Step 3: Information for your infographic


Research your topic using the following guiding questions:
• What are the current effects being experienced by your chosen topic globally and or locally if pertinent?
Provide detailed background information about your chosen topic.
• How are humans being impacted (economically, physically, socially)?
• How are natural systems (environment) being affected (short term)?
• What are the long term environmental concerns surrounding your topic?
• What are some current initiatives being taken (globally or locally) to combat your chosen topic?
• How does your climate change topic affect humans physically? Mentally?
*KEEP TRACK OF ALL YOUR SOURCES YOU USE IN THE RESEARCH PROCESS AND
INCLUDE THEM IN YOUR BIBLIOGRAPHY, MAKE SURE THIS INCLUDES YOUR NEWS

Step 4:
Create your infographics – one for Climate change and one for Biology components. Make sure it is eye-
catching and includes all the information that is needed to address as many questions above as possible. Include
all the important information for your peers to understand your chosen topic. Your infographic will be marked
for the information given to answer the above questions. Include diagrams, charts, and graphs. Make sure the
diagrams, charts and graphs relate to a specific part of your project.

• Infographic: Neatness, Use of Colour, Organization, free of spelling mistakes grammar. 6 marks
• Complete Bibliography AND rough notes. (Rough notes need to be handwritten with the Reference clearly
