UGANDA MUSLIM WOMEN COUNCIL’S MANDATE


UMWC mandate is capacity building, promote Islamic faith values and knowledge
build good leadership and governance structures that can work hand in hand with
government and non-government institutions for social economic transformation
for sustainable standards of living at household level.

LEADERSHIP AND GOVERNANCE STRUCTURE OF UMWC.


Uganda Muslim Women Council-UMWC structure is headed by the National
Chairperson UMWC, Ten Women Representatives to the General Assembly –
UMSC, with women leaders in 78 Districts ,630 Counties (Twale) and 15000
mosque councilors. The 10 Muslim regions include Ankole- Kigezi, Busoga,
Bunyoro-Tooro, Kampala, West Buganda, East Buganda, Eastern, West Nile,
Northern, Northern East. The council is in the process of profiling its women
leaders and non-leaders into groups that are engaged into small and medium
enterprises, commercial agriculture, and factory production fish farming, Taioring
and craft making among other economic activities.
National has 10 saccos and 30 members minimum and all these saccos have 78
Districts.

OBJECTIVES;
To build the capacity of Muslim leaders at regional level in knowing their
responsibilities in the Muslim faith.
To empower Muslim women leaders at regional level with the information
regarding government project programs for their meaningful inclusion and achieve
economic empowerment.
To empower Muslim leader women with knowledge about their gender rights and
reproductive health.
To give capacity to women leaders in relation to managing relationship between
Muslim and non-Muslim.
To enable Muslim leaders to form self-help groups that will enable them to start
saving, access government programs funds and come out of poverty.
To enable Muslim Women leaders to understanding about leadership in Muslim
Community and spiritual growth.

THE 2022 AMENDED CONSTITUTION
The Uganda Muslim Women Council with its 2022 amended constitution created
National Women Council with its structures from National Women Council,
Regional Women Council, District Women Council, County Women Council and
Village Mosque Women Councils. The amended constitution brings women on
board in terms of leadership and programming, acknowledges the importance of
women's participation and empowerment in the Muslim community.
The 2022 amended constitution works hand in hand with the Muslim Women
policy to follow the Uganda Muslim Women Council Strategic Plan.
