The Katipunan was a secret society and revolutionary
organization that played a significant role in the Philippine
Revolution against Spanish colonial rule. It was founded on July
7, 1892, by Andres Bonifacio, Teodoro Plata, Ladislao Diwa, and a
group of other like-minded individuals in Manila, Philippines. The
society aimed to achieve Philippine independence through
armed revolution and sought to end over three centuries of
Spanish colonization

The Katipunan was officially known as the "Kataas-taasan, Kagalang-


galangang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan" (Supreme and
Venerable Society of the Sons of the Nation).
Its primary objective was to unite Filipinos in the struggle against
Spanish oppression and achieve independence through armed
resistance.

Andres Bonifacio emerged as the leader of the Katipunan, with Emilio


Aguinaldo later joining its ranks.
