REFLECTION:

The Catholic Church opposed the Rizal Law, because the bill violates the right of the Catholic
Church to freedom of religion and conscience and right of that it violated its principles and weakened its
reputation, the Rizal Bill opponents did not just want to promote a more open society. They argue that the
bill would violate the rights of individuals to practice their religion. The Catholic Church was so against
the Rizal Law that they actually opposed the Rizal bill to stop it from becoming law, it would affect them
on their image. According to Recto, he authored the bill because he stated that bill’s only to propose was
to retain the memory of our national hero in every Filipino, be it newly born or an adult. He desired to
exude Rizal as he valiantly fought for freedom, and it was not to go against religion. But the Catholic
Church opposed to feared the bill would violate freedom of conscious and religion.

While the RH bill, the Catholic Church opposed because according to Batangas Ramon Arguelles,
“Our President intends to kill 20 million children with a fountain pen to sign RH bill into law. Church
leaders believe that the RH bill would only promote the use of abortifacient drugs. Nancy Northup said
“With the universal and free access to modern contraception, millions of Filipino women will finally be
able to regain control of their fertility, health and lives”. The Catholic Church opposed to it and it violated
a range of right, including freedom of religion and speech. The RH bill is the Responsible Parenthood, is
a groundbreaking law that guaranties universal and free access to nearly all modern contraceptives for all
citizens. It mandates reproductive health education in government schools and recognizes woman’s right
to post abortion care as part of the right reproductive healthcare. The Catholic Church opposed because it
would affect also to the Filipino women who have been pregnant will decided to abort the life of unborn
child.

These two bills would be the lesson to us to be aware between what is good from bad. As a Filipino
Youth we must be conscious what would happen to us. Although these two bills are different have
perspectives on why the Catholic Church opposed, the Rizal bill would be opposed by the Catholic Church
because it disobeys the law of God. The advantages of reproductive health bill in the Philippines is that
hopes to provide and give instructions and also to educate women’s to their freedom, RH bill has the
disadvantages in it, especially in terms of how it is implemented because not everyone have approved it
and everyone thinks that it is a sin.
