*For each reduction of 0.01 percent point below the specified maximum of carbon as in ASME SA516 Gr 70, an increase of 0.06
percentage point above the specified maximum for manganese is permitted, up to a maximum of 1.50% by heat analysis and 1.60% by
product analysis. For Grade 60 plates 12.5 mm and under in thickness may have 0.85-1.20% manganese on heat analysis, and 0.79-
1.30% manganese on product analysis.

**Other elements shall be as per table 1 of ASME SA 20 including footnotes.

Remarks

1. Any handwritten modification / comment in this document will make this document invalid and shall need reconfirmation from
Plant.

2. Steel is a technical product and any guarantee regarding the end application shall not come under JSP’s obligations. JSP shall fulfill
the properties as defined in this TDC only.

3. TC Remarks: TC will be Issued under the BIS certification marking license in IS2041 R260 indicating that this also certifies the
requirements of ASME SA516 Grade 70 (latest)

4. Mill Normalizing at 1.4 X thickness plus 10 minutes - minimum cycle time. (Target temp 880 +/-15° C)

5. Whenever the properties match with those of ASME SA516 Grade 60 viz. Chemistry is as per ASME SA516 Grade 60 and UTS
value is <= 540MPa, this would be maintained in the original test certificate itself under remarks column as – “The plates are
certified as per ASME SA516 Grade 60 also.”

6. Reduction ratio of cast slab to plate is >= 3.0 : 1 for plate thickness less than or equal to 100mm.

7. Reduction ratio of cast slab to plate is >= 2.0 : 1 for plate thickness greater than 100mm.

8. For plate thickness greater than 100mm the following test are done in addition as per ASME SA20 Clause 5.3

The sulfur content is 0.004 % or less

Steel making practice: Soft reduction during strand casting

Vacuum degassing during steelmaking

The plates are ultrasonically examined in accordance with Specification A578/A578M Level C based on Continuous scanning over
100 % of the plate surface.

The plates are through-thickness tension tested in accordance with Specification A770/A770M. ( Each tension test shall have a
minimum reduction of area no less than 20 %, Sample frequency: 2 samples per mother plate and Marked by stenciling as ZT on
plates )
