“Growth and Development of Children”

As I watch the video presentation in this module, I learned a lot about Growth and
Development of Children. There are many ways possible that happen while growing and
development is like its twin that never left the word and explanation.

Principles of growth and development

Development is relatively orderly. Both physical and mental traits continues gradually
until these traits reach their maximum growth. It simply goes on continuously
throughout life. While the pattern of development is likely to be similar, the outcome
of developmental process and the rate of development are likely to vary among
individuals. Development is Gradual, It does not happen rapidly, for humans, it
happens slowly and doesn’t have an ending. Development as a process complex. It is
the product of biological, cognitive and socio emotional process. It can also be
predicated by observation and different types of test and theories.

There are two approaches to human development

1. TRADITIONAL - Extensive change from birth to adolescence, little or no change in
adulthood and decline in late old age.
2. LIFE-SPAN- Studies how humans learn, mature, and adapt from infancy to
adulthood to elderly phases of life.
There are 5 characteristics in life-
span development;
1. Development is lifelong. It
does not end in adulthood.
2. Development is
multidimensional. It
consists of biological,
cognitive, and socio-
emotional dimensions.
3. Development is plastic. It is
possible throughout the
lifespan.
4. Development is contextual.
Individuals are changing beings in a changing world.
5. Development involves growth, maintenance and regulation. The goals of
individuals vary among developmental stages.
