1. A) Osmosis
B) Active transport
C) Facilitated diffusion is a passive transport process in which molecules and ions are
transported across the cell membrane from an area of higher concentration to one with a
lower concentration.

B) The rate of photosynthesis decreases when there is drought and it increases when re-
watering.

during the drought and recovery.

Part 3:
A) Chemiosmosis is a process during which ATP is synthesised by the energy stored in the
electrochemical gradient. This takes place in photophosphorylation which is the process in
which light energy is used to produce ATP in photosynthetic organisms. The energy from the
light is used to create an electrochemical gradient through the thylakoid membrane, which is
used to synthesise ATP via ATP synthase.
B) 1. Phosphorylation: Hexose sugar is phosphorylated by two molecules of ATP, which turns it
less stable, increases its reactivity and prev ents any diffusion out of the cell.
2. Lysis: Hexose biphosphate is separated into two trios phosphates.
3. Oxidation: The hydrogen atoms are taken out of the 3C sugars by oxidation, in order to
transform NAD+ to NADH.
4. ATP formation: A part of the energy that was released from the sugar is used to synthesise
ATP. Four molecules of ATP are produced throughout the process of glycolysis.
