OF MAINTENANCE AND CARE OF THE UNIT:
쎲 This Manual describes various inspections needed to ensure proper
operation of the Resusci Flow and the Resusci Flow with blender, in-
cluding instructions for troubleshooting, those procedures to change
certain settings which are not mentioned in the Operation Manual,
and important points to bear in mind when handling the unit.
쎲 Various inspections, including periodical inspection, are described in
detail in this Manual. They should be carried out only by those who are
fully familiar with the operation of the unit, having adequate technical
knowledge and skills required in inspecting the unit.
쎲 If repairs seem to be required as a result of any inspection described in
this Manual, either personnel with more advanced knowledge and skills
should undertake the repair or you should contact your local Atom rep-
resentative for repair service.
INTRODUCTION

This Service Manual describes procedures for inspecting, repairing and changing the settings of the Resusci
Flow. It also describes precautions and troubleshooting in alarm conditions.
The procedures described in this Service Manual should be carried out only by those who are trained in the
operation of the unit. Neither Atom Medical Corporation nor its representative will be responsible for the quality
and performance of the unit if the unit should not be handled as instructed or if unauthorized parts should be used
in repairs. It should be noted that any responsibility arising from inspecting, repairing or changing the settings of
the unit lies with the person who carried it out.
Read this Service Manual carefully and familiarize yourself thoroughly with its contents before inspecting, repair-
ing or changing the settings of the unit.
Keep this Manual where it is readily accessible for reference in case of need.
For more detailed information on inspecting, repairing and changing the settings of the unit, contact your local
Atom representative.

CAUTION
This product is shipped without being disinfected. Be sure to clean and disinfect the unit before
using it for the first time after purchase.

Used parts and products past their lives should be disinfected and/or sterilized and then disposed
of as medical wastes in accordance with applicable waste disposal laws and regulations.

SAFETY INFORMATION

Please read the Manual carefully before operating the unit. Please follow the instructions in operating it.

z Basic Instructions

1. Medical institutions should be responsible for the maintenance and inspection of the unit.

2. When you have decided to have the unit maintained and inspected or when the unit is found in need of repair
from the results of inspection, consult your local Atom representative, and
1) have the work carried out by a person with adequate technical knowledge and skills who has completed a
training course specified by Atom, or
2) ask Atom to send a service engineer if no such a person with adequate technical knowledge and skills who
has completed a training course specified by Atom is available, or
3) ask Atom for its approval of returning the unit for repair service.

3. Follow the instructions for the safe use of the unit.


Read the operating instructions thoroughly before operating the unit.

4. Inspect the unit on a periodical basis.


Periodical inspection is needed to use the unit in the optimum condition.

5. Never use the unit if it is found defective.


Take proper measures so that a defective unit will be properly inspected and repaired and will not be used by
mistake before it has its settings changed for normal operation. Such measures include q indicating on the unit
that it is under inspection/repair and w keeping it away from the other devices that function properly.

x Definitions of Warning Indication

Three levels of warning indication are used throughout this Manual and on the unit. They are defined as
follows.

A DANGER notice indicates an immediately hazardous situation which, if not avoided,


DANGER: will result in death or serious injury, serious damage to property such as total loss of use
of equipment, and a fire.

A WARNING notice indicates an indirectly (potentially) hazardous situation which,


WARNING: if not avoided, will result in death or serious injury, serious damage to property such as
total loss of use of equipment, and a fire.

A CAUTION notice indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, can result in

v General Precautions

CAUTION
Only those who are qualified and authorized by Atom or by a repair shop properly trained in the
handling of the unit should inspect, repair, change the settings of or disassemble and assemble the
unit.

In replacing a part, make sure that the new part you intend to use is the one specified by Atom.
Using a part other than the one specified by Atom for replacement may compromise the safety
feature of the unit.

Do not disinfect the unit by immersing it in a medical fluid; the unit cannot be sterilized by autoclav-
ing or with EOG. Follow the instructions given in the Operation Manual for cleaning and disinfecting
the unit.

After inspecting, repairing, disassembling and assembling, changing the settings of or cleaning
and disinfecting the unit, check that the unit operates properly.

CAUTION
After repairing or reassembling the unit, check the following points to make sure that the unit oper-
ates properly.

Check the basic functional operation of each part of the unit every time you are going to use the unit.

 Periodical inspection
Periodical inspection should be conducted on an annual basis

 Parts requiring periodical replacement


Some parts need to be replaced periodically depending on their period of use.

2-1. Inspection before Use


Check the following points every time you are going to use the unit.

If you should notice any strange smell, strange noise, overheating, strange vibration, missing parts
or defective function in the inspection, stop using the unit immediately and contact your local Atom
representative.

2-2-1. Preparation before inspection

2-4. Periodical Replacement Parts


Periodical replacement parts are those which gradually deteriorate and wear down with use. They need peri-
odical replacement to keep the accuracy and performance of the unit at a proper level. Timing of replacement
varies with the frequency and conditions of use. Consult your local Atom representative for replacement.

WARNING
Before cleaning and disinfecting the unit, be sure to stop the oxygen supply to the unit and discon-
nect the unit from the oxygen supply source.

Before cleaning or maintaining the unit, be sure to stop the oxygen supply to the unit and discon-
nect the unit from the oxygen supply source. Cleaning or maintaining the unit in an environment
where the oxygen concentration is high may cause a fire or an explosion.

Clean and disinfect the unit whenever you notice any dirt or stains, which might cause infection, on

After cleaning and disinfection, reassemble the removed parts correctly and make sure that the unit
operates normally.

Obtain a soft clean cloth and a disinfectant solution for cleaning and disinfection.

❋ Recommended disinfectant solutions include:


 Benzalkonium chloride aqueous solution
 Benzethonium chloride aqueous solution
 Chlorhexidine aqueous solution
 Alkyldiaminoethylglycine hydrochloride aqueous solution
Never use the above agents undiluted.

❋ Do not use any abrasive, cleaner, alcohol, acetone or other solvent for cleaning and disinfection. Do not
autoclave.

Clean and disinfect the main body, and then wipe it lightly with a soft dry cloth.

Do not use ethanol to disinfect the plastic parts of the unit.
Avoid using sodium hypochloride, which will corrode metals.

If the unit seems to be defective, indicate on the unit that it is out of order and contact your local
Atom representative.

Check the following points before requesting repair service.

Replacement Procedures

(2) Remove the blender fixing plate and then discon-
nect the piping connected to it.
(3) Disconnect the piping connected to the PIP valve to
be replaced.

CAUTION
 If you apply an excessive force to the PIP valve
in disconnecting the piping connected to it, the
PIP valve may become damaged. Be sure to hold
the PIP valve with one hand when disconnecting
the piping.

(4) Pry open the cap on the PIP setting knob on the
front of the unit. Loosen the nut with a box wrench PIP setting knob
(9mm) and remove the knob. Box wrench

in reverse order of disassembly and check that the

 Repalcing the PMAX valve


(1) Remove the rear cover of the unit (see “[6] Illustrated
Disassembly Procedures”).
(2) Remove the blender fixing plate and then discon-
nect the piping connected to it.
(3) Disconnect the piping connected to the PMAX valve
to be replaced.

CAUTION
 If you apply an excessive force to the PMAX valve
in disconnecting the piping connected to it, the
PMAX valve may become damaged. Be sure to
hold the PMAX valve with one hand when discon-
necting the piping.

(4) Remove the three screws fixing the PMAX valve.


(5) Loosen the PMAX setting knob with a box wrench
(2mm) and remove it.
(6) After replacing the PMAX valve, reassemble the unit
in reverse order of disassembly and check that the
unit operates normally.

Before replacing the blender, be sure to stop the oxygen supply to the unit and disconnect the unit
from the oxygen supply source.

After replacement, check that the unit operates normally.

(1) Remove the rear cover of the unit (see “[6] Illustrated Disassembly Procedures”).
(2) Remove the blender fixing plate and then disconnect the piping connected to it.
(3) Remove the bezel of the blender.
(4) Disconnect the piping connected to the blender.
(5) Remove the four screws fixing the blender from the rear and pull up the blender.
(6) After replacing the blender, reassemble the unit in reverse order of disassembly and check that the unit
operates normally.

5-4. Replacing the Flowmeter

(1) Remove the rear cover of the unit (see “[6] Illustrated

(2) Remove the blender fixing plate and then discon-
nect the piping connected to it.
(3) Disconnect the piping connected to the flowmeter.

the front of the unit.

move the knob.
(5) Loosen the knurled knob and remove the silicone
