Personal injury can result from hot coolant, steam and alkali.
Do not attempt to tighten hose connections when the coolant is hot, the
hose can come off causing burns.
NOTICE
Adding coolant to an overheated engine could result in damage to the
engine. Allow the engine to cool before adding coolant.

NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.
NOTICE
Excessive additive (greater than the recommended 6% initial fill)
together with concentrations of antifreeze greater than 60% cause
deposits to form and can result in radiator tube blockage and
overheating.
NOTICE
Mixing Extended Life Coolant (ELC) with other products reduces the
effectiveness of the coolant and shortens coolant life. Use only
Caterpillar products or commercial products that have passed the
Caterpillar EC-1 specifications for premixed or concentrate coolants.
Use only Caterpillar Extender with Caterpillar ELC. Failure to follow
these recommendations could result in the damage to cooling systems
components.

(1) Filler cap for the aftercooler cooling system
1. Loosen two filler caps (1) and (2) slowly in order to relieve pressure. Remove two filler caps (1)
and (2) .
2. Check two level gauges (3) and (4). If necessary, drain enough coolant in order to allow the
addition of the liquid coolant additive.

Note: Make sure that the coolant is drained into a suitable container.
3. Refer to the table in Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU6250, "Extended Life Coolant
(ELC)". This table lists the correct amount of Caterpillar Extended Life Coolant (ELC) extender
that should be added to the cooling system.
4. Clean two filler caps (1) and (2) and inspect two filler caps (1) and (2). Install two filler caps (1)
and (2) .
5. Start the engine and check for leaks. Allow the coolant level to stabilize.
6. If necessary, add premixed coolant in order to bring the coolant to the proper level on two level
gauges (3) and (4) .
