1 Pump Model
In this section, the model of the centrifugal pump designed in Modelca has been discussed.

1.1 Pump Test

After the pump model was created, a subsequent test model was also made based on the requirements presented
in the assignment. The following graphs show the graphs plotted for H/q at various values of normalised
rotational speeds(1, 0.8 and 0.6).

Figure 1: For n = 1

Figure 2: For n = 0.8

1
Figure 3: For n = 0.6

For n = 1, it was checked that H = 5 when fL = 0 and H = 0 when fL = 4.

2 Experiment 1
Using the instructions provided in the assignment, the produced model for the experiment can be seen in the
figure below.

Figure 4: Experiment 1

3 Experiment 2
For this experiment, the valve opening had to be halved after 10 seconds. The resulting graphs of the tank
level, flow rated of the pump and the valve can be found below.

2
Figure 5: Experiment 2

As expected, the tank level rises. Both the valve and the pump flow go down. The valve goes down drastically
and then slowly starts increasing again. On the other hand, the pump gradually decreases. To reach the new
steady state, it takes about 250 seconds.

4 Experiment 3
In this experiment, the normalised pump speed is decreased after 10 seconds. The lowest value of n had to be
found such that the flow was still positive. Using trial and error, the lowest value of n found out was n = 0.775.
The resulting graph can be found below

Figure 6: Experiment 3

As can be seen, the tank level goes down. The pump flow goes to 0 drastically and then starts increasing
gradually again. On the other hand, the valve flow just gradually goes down to a value of around 1.6 kg/s. It
takes around 190 seconds for the tank to reach a steady state again.

5 Experiment 4
In this experiment, the goal was to find the optimum change in valve opening such that the level of the tank
remains the same. Using trial and error, the best value came out to be 0.632. The level of the tank remains
almost the same. This can also be seen in the figure below
