Health &
USE CAUTION WHEN WORKING ON HYDRAULICS
Safety
Hydraulic system produces high pressures—incorrect hose replacement
can cause serious personal injur y. When perfor ming ser vice, refer to
Operator’s Manual for hose identif ication and connections.

Pressurized release of f luids from hydraulic system can cause serious

burns.

Escaping hydraulic f luid under pressure can have suf f icient force to
penetrate the skin, causing serious personal injur y.

Hydraulic f luid escaping under pressure from a ver y small hole can be
almost invisible. Use a piece of cardboard or wood to search for pos-
sible leaks.

Never use your hands to detect pressure leaks.

Hydraulic tank temperature can reach 180o F maximum.

DISPOSE OF WASTE PROPERLY

Improperly disposing of waste can threaten the environment and

ecology. Potentially harmful waste used with equipment include such
items as oil, fuel, coolant, brake f luid, f ilters, and batteries.

Use leak proof containers when draining f luids. Do not use food or
beverage containers that may mislead someone into drinking from
them.

Do not pour waste onto the ground, down a drain, or into any water
source.

Inquire on the proper way to recycle or dispose of waste from your local
environmental or recycling center.

WARNING - EYE PROTECTION

Always wear splash goggles when operating equipment.

PREPARE FOR EMERGENCIES

Be prepared if a f ire starts.

Keep a f irst aid kit and f ire extinguisher handy.

Keep emergency numbers for doctors, ambulance ser vice, hospital, and
f ire depar tment near your telephone.

SGZ20P

22
BATTERY CHARGING Health &
Safety
Read and understand the Maintenance Section of this manual before attempt-
ing to charge the battery.

Before using a charger, read all the manufacturers’ instructions for, and
caution markings on (1) charger and (2) batter y.

Wear personal protective equipment including gloves and complete eye

protection that protects eyes from all angles.

Never work alone with electrical equipment. Make sure that someone is
nearby to give assistance if you need help.

Reduce explosive gas (hydrogen). Batteries give off explosive gases when
charging and serious injuries can occur. Be sure the area around the battery
is clean and well ventilated before and during the charging process.

Avoid f lames and sparks near the battery. Do not smoke or weld near the
battery. Keep f lames, matches, lighters, cigarettes or other ignition sources
away from the battery.

Use only cables and clamps that are well insulated and in good condition to
make connections between battery and charger.

Exercise caution in using metal tools on or near the battery to reduce the risk
of short circuits that may cause battery explosions. Do not place tools on top
of the battery.

Avoid overcharging batteries. Some chargers can overcharge a batter y if left

connected for an extended period of time resulting in loss of water and
creation of hydrogen gas. Rising battery temperature and vigorous gassing
are clear indications of excessive charging which may reduce batter y life.

So called FAST (also known as High Rate or Boost) chargers should be used
with caution. Do not use a fast charger for more than 30 minutes on any
battery.

In very cold weather, a discharged battery may freeze. Never charge a frozen
battery. Gases may form which can crack the case and release battery acid.

Avoid contact with corrosion due to batter y acid. Battery posts may have acid
corrosion that may be harmful to eyes and skin.

If the battery is to be removed and/or replaced, always use a battery carrier.

Carrying the battery by hand may put pressure on its ends, causing batter y
acid to be forced out the vent caps. Avoid tipping the battery, which may
cause the release of battery acid through the vent caps. Avoid dropping the
battery. Batteries can be heavy and may cause injuries if dropped. Dropping
the battery can crack the case and release batter y acid.

Be sure to wash your hands with soap and water af ter servicing or
handling the battery. This will help neutralize any acid you may have con-
tacted. Always have plenty of fresh water and soap nearby in case battery acid
contacts the eyes, skin or clothing. If battery acid contacts the skin or
clothing, wash immediately with soap and water. If battery acid enters the
eye, immediately f lood eye with cold running water for at least fif teen (15)
minutes and get medical help immediately.

Operation
WARNING
NEVER OPERATE UNIT WITH ANYONE CLOSE BY. KEEP ALL UNTRAINED PERSONNEL
AWAY FROM WORK AREA.

OPTIONAL RADIO FREQUENCY CONTROL

The standard unit is discharged from the auxiliary controls located inside the
Telehandler/Forklift. The radio frequency control transfers control from the
telehandler/forklift to the point of discharge.
1. To power the receiver, the master battery switch must be connected. Insert
key and turn to the ‘on’ position.
2. To activate the receiver, depress the green reset button on the transmitter.
The L.E.D. on the transmitter blinks when the transmitter and receiver are
active.
3. The telehandler/forklif t operator needs to activate the auxiliary controls
prior to controlling the auger at the transmitter. Hydraulic f low is bypassed
at the auger motor control manifold until the transmitter activates the
discharge.
4. When ready to discharge, use the two function buttons with arrows indicating
direction of the auger. One function will run the auger forward and the other
in reverse. All transmitter control functions are momentary and need to be
held to keep that function active.
5. When finished using the radio frequency control de-activate the receiver by
depressing the red stop button. If radio frequency control is idle for 30
minutes, the unit will deactivate automatically.
6. To conserve battery power, shutoff power to the receiver by disconnecting the
master battery switch. Turn the key to the ‘off’ position.
7. In the event of an electrical failure, the solenoid valves can be manually
actuated in a fixed position to transfer control back to the telehandler/
forklift operator. Depress manual override button at solenoid valve through
access hole in motor/manifold cover located at rear of unit.

operation.

CLEANING
For consistent performance, long life and continued high quality delivery of grout and
other masonry products, thoroughly clean the hopper, discharge hose, and discharge
end daily. This will prevent the accumulation of dried mix that can form on the
hopper, hose and discharge end. Features on the auger, discharge snout and discharge
hose help enable the most efficient and effective cleaning.
1. Shut off power and disconnect hydraulic lines.
2. Release quick clamp on discharge hose, remove, and rinse.
3. Spray hopper and discharge end through the cleanout screens with water
before mix dries to remove accumulation.
4. Reconnect hydraulic lines and auger out debris from hopper.
5. For further access to the discharge end, the snout may be detached from the
hopper at the speed clamp and hinged out of the way. Ensure that the power is
shutoff and hydraulic lines are disconnected before opening the discharge end
to clean.

WARNING

Hydraulic Drive
The hydraulic drive motor is extremely reliable and will ordinarily not need maintenance or
repair. There is a coupling between the motor and the auger. The coupling may be inspected
and adjusted by removing the inspection cover. DO NOT remove inspection cover while
machine is running. DO NOT run machine with inspection cover removed.

The hydraulic cylinder and valve are extremely reliable and will not need maintenance or
repair. The hydraulic manifold valve controls the motor and cylinders. The valve also
regulates the stroke speed of the cylinder. A relief set at 400 psi is built into the manifold to
protect the cylinder.

Hydraulic Fittings and Hoses

The hydraulic fittings and hoses are o-ring face seal style connectors. Check weekly for
loose hoses or fittings and for any damage or leakage. It is important to check the entire
machine periodically.

Hardware
SGZ20P Periodically inspect all hardware on the unit and engine. Loose hardware can contribute to
early component failure and poor performance.

36
Auger Removal for Flight Replacement Maintenance
1. Auger is removed for rubber flight replacement or replacement of entire auger
assembly. Auger does not necessitate removal for cleaning purposes.
2. Remove roll pin that attaches the auger to the drive motor. (See illustration
below)
3. Move auger assembly back into the discharge casing until auger is clear of
collar it was attached to.(See illustration below)
4. Note that auger assembly cannot be removed through the discharge casing.
The rubber f lighting attached to the auger fits tightly around discharge
casing. Removal would require significant force beyond manual means and
could result in damage or injury.
5. Lift end of auger that was attached to collar up out of auger charge opening
and remove assembly. (See illustration below)

Optional Radio Frequency Control

A 12-volt battery is provided with units with the optional radio frequency control. The
battery circuit is equipped with a battery disconnect switch to preserve battery power
and isolate the receiver and solenoids when external charging is required. Occasionally
the battery may need to be charged if below the 12 volts required to run the receiver
and manifold solenoid valve. Isolate the battery from the rest of the system using the
battery disconnect switch and charge.
Refer to the receiver and transmitter documentation for further operator, maintenance,
or troubleshooting information.
