What is Philosophy
A branch of Humanities

• French Philosopher Luk Ferry, defines Philosophy in three terms;

Thepria;
Theo - The ultimate reality of Life
Oreo - I see (Darshan as we name it in India)
Ethics - What is Good and and What is Bad
Our attitude towards Death, Salvation and theLife after
• Back in India, Our Kathoponisad…beyond death. Every system has to
consider what is the response to death
• This brings the question of Happiness and Sorrow

Epistemology, Axiology & Ontology
Three branches of Philosophy
• Epistemology is about, “How do you know, What you Know”. the study of
the nature, origin, and limits of human knowledge. The term is derived
from the Greek epistēmē (“knowledge”) and logos (“reason”), and
accordingly the field is sometimes referred to as the theory of knowledge.
• Axiology is the philosophical study of Values(Ethics). It includes questions
about the nature and classification of values and about what kinds of
things have value. It the study of the nature, types, and criteria of values
and of value judgments especially in ethics.
• Ontology is about, what exists and what doesn’t. What is real. It is the
branch of philosophy that studies concepts such as existence, being,
becoming, and reality. It includes the questions of how entities are
grouped into basic categories and which of these entities exist on the
most fundamental level.

Who am ‘I’
or
What am ‘I’

13
Who / What am ‘I’

Understanding ‘I’ through

two sets of “Logic”;
1. “Seer” and the “Seen”
2. Three states of our Existences
(Awakend, Dream & Deep Sleep)
14
Logic - 1

Can the “Seer” and the “Seen”

be same en ty?
No

15
ti
Analogy of the ‘Seen’ and the ‘Seer’
Basic: The “Seen” and the “Seer” are different entities

16
Mind

Our Brain receives

the electric signals
through Optic Nerves
in the Visual Cortex of
our brain.
But, immediately our
Mind decodes and
assumes the accurate
shape of the object.
This is happens only
in presence of
Consciousness.
17
What ultimately becomes aware
of the “Object” we see is “Consciousness”?
Which “I” can not see?
Its “I” the Subject. 🤔
Because,
“I am the Consciousness” Myself,
who will see whom.
Logic - 2
Our three States of Existences;
1. Awakend State
2. Dream State
3. Deep Sleep State

19
Who am “I”?

I am “Consciousness”
Consciousness, God & Individual Relationship
Let ‘C’ represents ‘Consciousness’

C +
= ∑C r
= C +
r=1 One Body, Mind & Intellect
Total Body, Mind & Intellect

God Individual

God Me
• Existence • Existence
• Consciousness • Consciousness
• In nite • Finite
Spirituality inspires us to know this, and
a rms that only knowing is enough to
achieve that Reality, that state of In nitude.
