Patterns & Relationships

Question 1
Otsile decides to sell lemons and apples from his garden. He sells his
lemons for R2,00 each and his apples for R3,00 each.
1.1 Determine the formulae to represent the cost of buying lemons and apples
from Otsile. (2)
1.2 Construct a table to illustrate the cost of buying both fruits. (3)
1.3 Hence, use your table from question 1.2 to draw the graphs of the different
costs of each fruit. (5)
1.4 Indicate on the graph how much it costs to buy 9 lemons. Label your
answer A (2)
1.5 Use the formulae you created in question 1.1 to calculate how much it
would cost to buy 120 apples from Otsile. (2)

Question 2
Maplai would like to have a paintball party. There are two venues close to
her house:
• Paintball Park charges R90 per person
• Aim Right charges R110 per person
2.1 Given the table below, determine the missing values:
Number of people 0 1 2 3 A 15
Paintball Park 0 90 180 270 900 1 350
Cost (in rands)
Aim Right B 110 220 C 1 100 1 650
Cost (in rands) (6)

2.2 Determine the independent and dependent variable in this relationship. (2)
2.3 Use the table in question 2.1 to draw both graphs on one set of axes. Use
a maximum number of 10 people. (5)
2.4 Where did Maplai have her party and how many people were there in total
if her parents paid R450 for her party? (2)
2.5 What would the difference in price have been between Aim Right and
Paintball Park, if Maplai had 5 friends at his party? (3)
