that use KYOCERA printer drivers and utilities with Microsoft’s new operating

systems, Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012.

What are Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012?
Windows 8 is the newest version of Microsoft’s Windows operating system designed to
be used with a wider range of personal computers and devices, including desktops,
laptops, netbooks, tablets, and media center PCs.

Windows Server 2012 is Microsoft’s newest server platform that includes many new
features and enhancements for virtualization, networking, storage, user experience, cloud
computing, automation, and more.

Which KYOCERA printer drivers are compatible with Windows 8?


NOTE: KYOCERA recommends upgrading earlier versions of the KX DRIVER to KX
DRIVER 6.0 before upgrading to Windows 8.

 KX DRIVER 6.0 officially supports Windows 8. A web package for KX DRIVER 6.0
is available for distribution and for download through Windows Update.

 KX DRIVER 5.3 and earlier versions of the KX DRIVER are not compatible with
Windows 8. Upgrade your drivers to KX DRIVER 6.0 prior to the OS upgrade.

 GX DRIVER
o For Aquarius Series
 Aquarius MFP 1.0 v5.2.1718 and later is compatible with Windows 8.
o For earlier Models ( Orion GDI, Atlantis GDI etc)
 GX DRIVERs for Orion GDI and Atlantis GDI are not compatible.
 GX (XPS) DRIVER for Aquarius MFP 1.0 v3.0.1718 and later is compatible with
Windows 8.
 KX (XPS) DRIVER v1.2.3209 and later versions are compatible with Windows 8.
Releases before v1.2.3209 are not supported.

 KYOCERA and Triumph-Adler (TA) inbox drivers are compatible with Windows 8

(see the Appendix for model support). These drivers are XPS drivers and may not

support all advanced multifunction printer and printer options.

 PCL and KPDL mini drivers based on Microsoft's UNIDRV and PSCRIPT

technologies are self-signed and compatible with Windows 8, but must be

installed using the Windows Add Printer Wizard. These drivers are designated by

"PCL" or "KPDL" in their model names, as illustrated below.

 FAX Driver is compatible with Windows 8.1 A web package for the FAX Driver will

be available soon.

When using FAX Driver on Windows Server 2012 (x64), users may encounter a crash error after

selecting a device from the Print dialog or after clicking “Print”. A fix for this issue will be included in

future releases.

Are there any known issues with KX DRIVER and KX (XPS) DRIVER for Windows 8?

For the KX DRIVER 6.0, there are two known issues:


 On Windows 8 x86, Security Watermark prevents all Microsoft Word or Microsoft

Excel documents from printing. This is due to architectural changes in Windows 8.

An updated driver will be available shortly.

 On Windows 8 x86 and x64, Application-based Profiles are not supported for

Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. This is due to architectural changes in

Windows 8, and Microsoft has informed us that this is a change by design.

There are also two IPP/IPPS-related issues with the KYOCERA printer drivers:
 KX DRIVER cannot be installed via IPPS port in Windows 8. An updated driver will

be available shortly.

 We are also investigating an issue that prevents multiple concurrent print jobs

from printing correctly when sent via IPP or IPPS.

For all KX DRIVER versions, there is a known issue for Smart Duplex printing. On a 64-

bit OS, Smart Duplex printing may not work with 32-bit applications such as Microsoft

Word and Microsoft Excel. We recommend installing the 64-bit version of the applications.

For KX (XPS) DRIVER, there is an issue that causes watermarks to not print correctly.
This issue has been resolved and the fix will be included in future releases. Users can
use KX DRIVER as a workaround.

Are there any known issues with GX DRIVER and GX (XPS) DRIVER for Windows

8?

All the printer drivers shipped with Windows 8, also referred to as “inbox drivers,” are
compatible, with exception to the drivers for the FS-1040 and FS-1060DN. If these drivers
get automatically installed through USB Plug and Play after connecting the devices to a
computer with Windows 8, users will not be able to print. The affected drivers can be
identified by the ‘KPSL’ name extension in the Windows 8 printer driver list (e.g. “Kyocera
FS-1040 KPSL”). Users will need to remove these drivers and install them with the GX
DRIVER or GX (XPS) DRIVER included in the Product Library CD 2.0 (and later versions).

These updated drivers are also available through Windows Update. For more information,
refer to the Aquarius Printer service bulletin.

For GX DRIVER, there is a known issue that causes the Device Properties window to
crash after opening it for a selected device in File > Print. This issue has been fixed and
will be included in a future web package or CD release. The fix is included in the
v5.3.2309 web package, which is currently available (for printer models only).

For GX (XPS) DRIVER, there is an issue that causes watermarks to not print correctly.
This issue has been resolved and the fix will be included in future releases. Users can
use GX DRIVER as a workaround.

Which KYOCERA utilities are compatible with Windows 8?

KYOCERA Net Admin


KYOCERA Net Admin 3.0 is compatible with Windows 8 (see table below for supported
versions). However, it requires .NET Framework 3.5, which is not preinstalled on
Windows 8, and Microsoft advises against installing .NET Framework 3.5 manually.
Existing versions of Net Admin 3.0 with .NET Framework 3.5 that are already installed on
a PC will continue to work in Windows 8 after an OS upgrade. We will release a
standalone installer package for Net Admin that supports Windows 8 and includes .NET
Framework 4.0 later this year.

KYOCERA Net Admin 3.0 can be run in Microsoft Internet Explorer 10 if the compatibility
mode is enabled. It is not recommended to run it in Internet Explorer 10’s standard mode
at this time. You can find this setting in the Tools menu in the browser.

KYOCERA Net Viewer


KYOCERA Net Viewer 5.3 is compatible with Windows 8 (see table below for supported

versions). However, it requires .NET Framework 3.5, which is not preinstalled on
Windows 8, and Microsoft advises against installing .NET Framework 3.5 manually.
Existing versions of Net Viewer 5.3 with .NET Framework 3.5 that are already installed on
a PC will continue to work in Windows 8 after an OS upgrade. We will release a
standalone installer package for Net Viewer that supports Windows 8 and includes .NET
Framework 4.0 later this year.

KYOCERA Net Viewer 5.3 currently has two known issues on Windows 8 that prevent
anyone other than a PC user with local administrator privileges from performing firmware
upgrades and using Host Management features. As a workaround, users can log out of
Windows and log in again as an administrator to use these features.

KYOCERA Net Policy Manager


KYOCERA Net Policy Manager is compatible with Windows 8 (see table below for
supported versions). However, the server license and device licenses are deleted after an
OS upgrade. We strongly recommend saving all license information and backing up the
KNPM database and settings prior to upgrading to Windows 8, because this information
will be needed after the upgrade. All spooler jobs should be cleared and the spooler
process stopped before upgrading.

KYOCERA Client Tool


KYOCERA Client Tool is compatible with Windows 8, but may be unable to connect to the
device after installation via USB. This issue only happens once after installation, and will
not reoccur after the user has opened the Printer Properties dialog box or after printing a
document. We are working on this issue and will provide more information as it becomes
available.

Which KYOCERA drivers and utilities are compatible with Server 2012?

KX DRIVER 6.0 is fully compatible. We recommend upgrading KX DRIVER 5.3 (and


earlier versions of the KX DRIVER) to KX DRIVER 6.0 before the upgrade to Windows
Server 2012.

KYOCERA Net Admin and KYOCERA Net Viewer are compatible. However, Net Admin
must be installed before the upgrade to Windows Server 2012 (see upgrade instructions
in the Appendix).

Is PrintFleet supported in Windows 8 and Server 2012?


Server 2012 support is currently being planned, with a target date of Q1 2013. It is not
advised to use PrintFleet with Windows 8. We are talking to the vendor and will provide
more information as it becomes available.

Is FMAudit supported in Windows 8 and Server 2012?


It is not advised to use FMAudit with Windows 8. We are talking to the vendor and will
provide more information as it becomes available.

Are the Product Library CDs compatible with Windows 8?


Product Library CDs for Alphard2 and later will officially support Windows 8. Earlier CDs
are not compatible.

Which KYOCERA devices are compatible with Windows 8?


The Windows 8 hardware compatibility website lists all compatible KYOCERA printers

Which drivers are included with Windows 8?


The models listed in the tables in the Appendix are included on the Windows 8
Distribution Media (Windows 8 DVD).

What is Windows RT? Which drivers are compatible with Windows RT?

Windows RT is a special version of Windows 8 designed to run on mobile devices such
as tablets. Windows RT is comparable to a mobile operating system and does not include
all the features and capabilities available in Windows 8.

For printer drivers, Windows RT can only support the inbox drivers that come preloaded
with the operating system. Currently, the drivers for the Aquarius models are not
supported on Windows RT. KYOCERA Document Solutions is developing a driver that
can be installed on a PC and shared with RT devices. Detailed instructions will be
provided with the driver release.

KYOCERA Product Upgrade Instructions

Upgrading KX DRIVER:

Upgrade earlier versions of the KX DRIVER to KX DRIVER 6.0 before upgrading to


Windows 8 or Server 2012. Please be aware that all printer driver settings (selected
output options, RAM disk, and profiles) will be reset during the OS upgrade.

For information about KX DRIVER upgrades in client-server environments, refer to SB-


KDDA-2012-4.

Upgrading to Windows 8 or Server 2012 with KYOCERA Net Admin 3.0:

1. Open the KYOCERA Net Admin login page in your Web browser.
<http://[server name or IP address]:7478/netadmin>
2. Log into the Administration console.
3. Open the Preferences menu and click Database backup. Database Backup will
appear in the right view.
4. Select Manual and click Create backup to start the Backup process.
5. Wait a few minutes while the backup file is created.
6. Open “C:\ KNetAdminBackup” folder (default backup folder) and locate the most
recent backup zip file. An example of the file name format is “backup-
1302169962015.zip”.
7. Remove KYOCERA Net Admin from Add/Remove Programs
8. Clean up PostgreSQL after Net Admin has uninstalled.
The user account that was created during installation must be removed. This can
be done by going to: Start\Control Panel\Administration Tools\Computer
Management\System Tools\Local Users and Groups\Users and then right-clicking
on the NetAdmin user and selecting Delete. The Postgres folder at C:\Program
Files\PostgreSQL or at C:\Program Files(x86)\PostgreSQL must also be removed.
9. Upgrade your operating system to Windows 8 or Server 2012.

10. Install KNA server as default.
11. Log into the Administration console.
12. Open the Preferences menu and click Database restore.
Database Restore will appear in the right view. The “backup-1302169962015.zip”
file should be available in the Database Restore list view.
13. Select “backup-1302169962015.zip” backup file in the list view and click Start
Restore Process icon on the right toolbar.
14. Click OK on the warning message dialog to start the restore process.
15. Wait a few minutes for the restore to Net Admin.
16. When the restore process is finished, click Go to Login Page.
17. Log into the Administrator console and your data should be successfully restored.

Upgrading with KYOCERA Net Policy Manager:

Save all license information and back up the KNPM database and settings prior to
upgrading your OS, because this information will be needed after the upgrade. All spooler
jobs should be cleared and the spooler process stopped before upgrading.

Other Utilities:

.NET Framework 3.5 is required for all other utilities including Setup Tool, ID Register,
and earlier versions of FMU (releases before v3.0.1114). We are currently updating these
utilities to support .NET Framework 4.0.

There are no other special product-related upgrade considerations for Windows 8 and
Server 2012. However, we always recommend backing up all data and settings prior to
any OS upgrade. For Windows Server 2012, a clean installation is required for all drivers
and utilities after the server upgrade. Refer to the product installation guides for detailed
instructions.
