PROCEDURE
Introduction Time
 Last week we looked at colour. This week we are going to look at pattern, shape,
and symbols. These are what is designed on an artwork. There is a type of art
called craft or home arts. These arts are often considered bellow work in
museums. But this work is art we see every day. Who has a pattern on their

clothing? This is a craft. I have embodery on my shirt, this is a craft. What
patterns are on my shirt?


Body Time
Topic – looking at 1) In pairs have students look at artworks (10 different
artwork works) all focused on pattern, shape, and symbol. –
What patterns are in these works? How do the

2) Get them to draw/write what they are thinking

Topic – playing 1) We are going to make moccasins. On the board are min
with Pattern patterns from the Blackfoot. You do not have to follow
these, but they are inspiration (something to get you

started) I am going to give you a piece of paper to make
your moccasin, but before I do so you need to plan
your pattern in your journal using coloured pencils.
Once you have made your pattern you will get your
moccasin.
