HW-Conduct Research on the following:
1. What are the different of Dams in the Philippines and their features.

MAGAT DAM
Location: Isabela Province
Purpose-Regulates river flow to prevent downstream flooding during heavy rainfall or
typhoons. Supplies water to agricultural lands, supporting local farming. enerates
electricity through hydroelectric power. Releases stored water during dry periods to
alleviate shortages. Magat Dam plays a critical role in water management, energy
production, and supporting the livelihoods of surrounding communities.
Water storage: 3.9 cubic meters
Energy Storage: 360MW

AMBUKLAO DAM
Location: Benguet Province
Purpose: The primary function of Ambuklao Dam is to generate electricity through
hydroelectric power.

It helps regulate the flow of water in the Agno River, reducing the risk of downstream
flooding during heavy rainfall. Provides a reliable source of water for domestic,
agricultural, and industrial use.
Water Storage: 190 million cubic meters
Energy Storage: 75 MW
La Mesa Dam

Location: Metro Manila (Quezon City)

Purpose: Water Supply: The dam is a crucial source of potable water for the residents
of Metro Manila, supporting domestic, industrial, and agricultural needs.Flood Control: It
helps regulate the flow of water in the Tullahan River and its tributaries, reducing the
risk of downstream flooding during heavy rainfall or typhoons.Recreation and
Conservation: The surrounding La Mesa Ecopark provides a recreational space for
visitors and serves as a hub for environmental education and conservation efforts
Water Storage: 50.5 million cubic meters

Casecnan Multipurpose Irrigation and Power Project

Location: Nueva Vizcaya Province
Purpose: It provides a reliable water supply for agricultural purposes, ensuring that
farmers have access to the water they need to irrigate their fields. This can significantly
increase crop yields and support agricultural productivity.
Power Generation: These projects typically incorporate hydropower components, using
the flow of water to generate electricity. This helps to meet the energy needs of the
region where the project is located.
Water Storage: 982 million cubic meters
Energy Storage: 140 MW

Caliraya Dam
Location: Laguna Province
Purpose: The primary function of Caliraya Dam is to generate electricity through
hydroelectric power, contributing to the energy needs of the surrounding area.
Water Supply: It provides water for domestic, agricultural, and industrial use in the
region, ensuring a reliable water source for various purposes.
Recreation and Tourism: The dam and its reservoir offer opportunities for recreational
activities such as boating, fishing, and other water-based pursuits, attracting tourists
and providing a space for leisure.
Water Storage: 17.5 million cubic meters
Energy Storage: 22.5 MW
2. What are the different types of Water Tanks, their features, materials, usages
and importance?
Bladder Tank
Features: Collapsible tanks with a flexible membrane (bladder) inside a rigid frame or
container.
Materials: Often made of reinforced PVC or polyurethane.
Usages: Commonly used for temporary or emergency water storage, firefighting, and
military applications.
Importance: Space-saving, easy to transport, and quick to deploy in emergency
situations.

Steel Water Tanks:

Features: Made of steel sheets, can be customized in size and shape.
Materials: Typically made of galvanized or stainless steel.
Usages: Used for industrial, commercial, and residential water storage. Common in fire
protection systems, municipal water supply, and rainwater harvesting.
Importance: Durable and can withstand harsh weather conditions. Suitable for large-
scale storage needs.
Concrete Water Tanks:
Features: Constructed on-site using reinforced concrete. Can be above-ground or
underground.
Materials: Concrete, often reinforced with steel.
Usages: Commonly used for municipal water supply, agriculture, and firefighting
reserves.
Importance: Long-lasting, resistant to UV rays, and can be built to withstand seismic
activity. Suitable for large-scale water storage.

Polyethylene Water Tanks:

Features: Molded plastic tanks, available in various shapes and sizes.
Materials: High-density polyethylene (HDPE) or polypropylene.
Usages: Widely used for residential, agricultural, and commercial purposes. Often used
for rainwater harvesting and temporary storage.
Importance: Lightweight, easy to install, and resistant to corrosion and chemicals.

Fiberglass Water Tanks:

Features: Made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic (FRP), lightweight and corrosion-
resistant.
Materials: Fiberglass layers coated with resin.
Usages: Common in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. Suitable for
chemical storage and rainwater harvesting.
Importance: Lightweight, durable, and resistant to corrosion, making them ideal for
various applications.

3.Reflection on what have you learned from your subject during the Prelim Period

Basic Human Needs: Clean and accessible water is essential for drinking, cooking,
and personal hygiene, ensuring public health and sanitation.
Agricultural Support: Water is critical for irrigation, enabling the growth of crops and
sustaining agricultural livelihoods, thereby ensuring food security.
Industrial and Economic Growth: Industries rely on water for various processes, from
manufacturing to energy production, supporting economic development and job
creation.
Energy Generation: Water resources, especially in hydropower systems, serve as a
renewable and sustainable source of energy, reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
Recreation and Tourism: Water bodies offer recreational activities like swimming,
boating, and fishing, contributing to tourism and local economies.
Transportation and Trade: Waterways serve as natural transportation routes,
facilitating the movement of goods and people, reducing transportation costs.
