Applications are hereby invited for the following position:

SENIOR LECTURER: STATISTICS


PEROMNES 07, PERMANENT,
REFERENCE NO: WSU EXT 2024/11

Qualifications:
 Doctorate degree in Statistics (NQF level 10) or equivalent.

Experience:
 A minimum of five (5) years lecturing experience at a tertiary institution.
 A record of recent research publications, including at least three (3) published articles in
peer reviewed DHET accredited journals.
 Evidence of recent research activity including conference papers (presented at local and
international conferences) and other acceptable research outputs.
 Evidence of postgraduate student supervision.

Key Performance Areas:


 Offer tuition in statistics courses to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
 Students performance management and admin: compile teaching material, conduct
classes, assess and do administrative duties associated with teaching & Learning.
 Liaise with other academic and non-academic units and external parties and supervise
postgraduate research projects.
 Assist department in academic and administrative responsibilities
 Curriculum development and accreditation - contributes to curriculum development,
curriculum review, review assessment methods, participate in programme accreditation.
Renew and develop the curriculum to align it with emerging needs of society
 Quality Assurance – Contribute to Quality Assurance through committee meetings
 Contribute towards the development and implementation of a WSU and Faculty research
strategy.
 Plan and undertake research within niche areas of the department.
 Develop research projects.
 Identify suitable candidates to participate in research projects.
 Draw up performance plans for research teams.
 Participate in research paper publications.
 Research capacity building.
 Provide research mentoring and coaching
 Promote research, community engagement and partnerships within the department.

Skills and Competencies Required:


 Able to work independently
 Computer literacy and expertise in e-learning and online teaching platforms.
 Candidate must be able to use R, SAS and other well-known statistical software.
 Perform data analysis.
 Good lecturing and presentation skills.
 Team player
 Possess good critical and interpretive skills
 Possess good communication and interpersonal skills
 Ability to supervise research projects.
