Here at NASA we all pee the same color. (Cherin, 2016). This is a quote from a movie
by the name of Hidden Figures which was released in 2016. It is about a group of
black women who work for NASA. The women were helping NASA send a man into
space using math, engineering, and programing. They are also trying to prove that
black people were just as capable as white people in learning the subjects of math
and science. The film reenacted how American s in the 1960 s lived. The Space Race
was at its peak in popularity during this time and the United States was desperate to
put a man in space for the Russians. Hidden Figures shows how the women worked
to overcome the stereotypes which are placed on them due to their skin color and
gender from society. The movie also highlights several social problems that society
faced in the past and their continued existence even today.
The movie incorporates multiple social problems such as racism, sexism, and
educational inequality. This is shown by revealing how whites would treat blacks
during the 1960 s. Many whites during this time felt that blacks should be separate
but equal. However, Civil Rights activists disagreed and felt that blacks should be
allowed to go to the same bathrooms, water fountains, and schools that whites attend.
The social problems shown in the movie still affect people to this day. There are

(vegetable oil, olive oil, and lard) and place it into a beaker. Then we had to add 6 M

Corporal punishment and cruelties were seen when such things as previously
discussed, like practice of cultural and usage of native language, were practiced by
native children in these residential schools. Lack of basic life necessities in these
residential schools also resulted in disturbing mortality rates. Several doctors
commissioned to inspect and report on health standings of children in residential
school, found results that would bring horror in relation to current world
standards. One doctor by the name of Dr. Bryce, found that in Western Canadian
residential schools between 1894 1908, throughout a five year period thirty to
sixty percent of a class would die (Bryce, 1922). These findings and others were
published in Dr. Bryce s book, The Story of a National Crime: Being a Record of
the Health Conditions of the Indians of Canada from 1904 to 1921. In total it is
estimated over 3000 children died from disease and lack of basic necessities during
the time of government run Indian residential schools in Canada from 1884 to the
final closing in 1996 (The Canadian Press, 2013). Mortality rates demonstrate well the

World War Two in Europe began on 3rd September 1939, when the Prime Minister
of Britain, Neville Chamberlain, declared war on Germany (Barrow). They had
1.25 million soldiers storm into Poland. Many countries were involved in the war

involved. This was a big step for the British and they had a good military. People of
Germany elected a leader named Adolf Hitler who would eventually kill millions.

he killed eighty four of them. In just a year in the war they had 200,000 people
dead and 550,000 wounded. During the same time in Europe the death and injury

Jews. The allies had dropped 3.4 million tons of bombs on people. The Nazis in

Fighting for Gay Rights In our society we should protect LGBT rights it s unfair
that we treat them differently. We should make more changes about how we treat
them they should be allowed to go as they please or shop at places they want to

things that are going on in the world but why not support gay marriage ? or fight for
they rights?. They are high risk for suicide rates the reason being they feel like
they could not please everyone. They feel like they failed to make everyone happy
and reach their standards. My concern are the innocent people that are going
through this. The LGBT community already go through enough some of their
families disown them because of who they are which is ridiculous. People make
them feel guilty because loving another sex is a sin which it is not. Our society
