GOOGLE CLASSROOM
 Google Classroom codes will be given out on the first day of class. Please join after attending
our first class.

SUPPLIES
● Four separate labeled notebooks or one multi-subject notebook with at least 4 labeled sections.
○ Grammar
○ Reading
○ Writing
○ Debate/Vocabulary
● One or more pencils or mechanical pencils
● One or more erasers
● One or more pens
● Please have a Gmail account that you have access to. If your parents don’t want you to have
your own Gmail account, you may use theirs as long as you can access it. If you use your
parent’s account, please inform him/her that they will be getting notifications.

January 1-2

WORDLY WISE
1. Bring your Wordly Wise book to class.

GREAT WRITING
1. Read “Elements of Great Writing” on pg. 4-5.
2. Read “Against E-Voting” on pg. 6-7.

GRAMMAR
1. Bring your Grammar book to class.
NOVEL
1. Homework for this novel will begin on the fifth week of January
2. Please make sure you purchase this novel as soon as possible.

January 4-5

WORDLY WISE
1. Read and Study Lesson 1 on p.1-3.
2. Complete 1A p.3-4.

GRAMMAR
1. Complete Chapter 1: Practice 1-5 p.1-2.

READING
1. Read “Using Reading Strategies” p.4-5.
 After reading the essay, write at least 5 stereotypes you have about other
people (1 paragraph).
 After reading the second paragraph, “Subway Soloist,” explain what
content you expected to see in the ensuing paragraphs? (1 paragraph).
2. Read “Short Stories” p.6
 Complete “Connect Reading to Your Life” on p.7
3. Read “Short Stories, continued” p.7-8
 Complete “Try and Experiment” p.9

DEBATE
● Expect to have an impromptu debate.
