PAROL MAKING
(REFLECTION)

The Christmas Lantern also known as “Parol” is one of the most recognizable symbols of the
Christmas Spirit. The parol symbolizes the genuine essence of Christmas as well as the resourcefulness
that is uniquely Filipino.

Every year, Parol making for every section of 2nd year are held to bring forth the spirit of Filipino
Christmas. In relation to this, our instructor in Art Appreciation decides to give a project by means of
parol making with the condition of using recyclable materials to show the act of prudence and frugality
as well as resourcefulness and creativeness of the students. Therefore, our group come up with an idea
of making an “disposable spoon Christmas lantern”, we used these materials not just because it was easy
and less expensive but also to reduce waste especially this Christmas season. By making this parol we
have a lot of realization, we realized that teamwork and unity are really important and I have seen it
during the time of making the parol. Each one of us has their own role and task in making the parol and
all of them are not that easy to accomplish. All of our group members brought disposable spoon
individually, some of them bring other materials the we needed. Let’s also include the school works and
projects that need to be done in other subjects that make it hard for us to finish making the parol. But
despite all of the hardships, our group never once failed to impress each and every one, our
determination and efforts over everything and was able to finish and present the parol confidently.
With these we believe that when there is teamwork and unity, wonderful things can be achieved.
