AVIONIC MANUAL

I. System Description:

The KPI 552 is a 4 inch wide panel-mounted instrument.


It presents a plan view of the aircraft with respect to mametic north, selected course, selected
heading, and the automatic bearing of the ADFIRMI station selected.
Heading, selected heading, selected course, and the ADF or RMI station bearing are read
against a semo-driven compass card.
The servo drive electronics for the compass semo loop and ADFIRM1 sewo loop are
contained within the indicator.
Meter movements display glideslope deviation, course deviation, TO-FROM indication, and
operate warning flags or shutters that monitor compass, navigational>and glideslope valid
signals.

The HSI is supplied with 28 VDC via one IA circuit breaker and with 26 VAC via one 1A
circuit breaker marked HSI 0.

111. Display Features:

1 Lubber Line: Fixed reference mark for compass card, representing nose of
aircraft.

2 WAV Flag: Indicates the loss of proper navigation infomation from the
ground station or a malfunction of the navigation receiver.

3 Glideslope Flag Appears if the ground signal is invalid.


(Shutter Flag) The Glideslope Deviation Pointer is hidden from view, if no
valid G$ signal is present, or if the signal received fails.

4 VORILOCIRNAV The CDB deflects parallel to the left or right of center line
Course Deviation Bar showing actual course deviation.

5 Heading Bug The HDG bug is positioned by the heading select knob.
(It provides heading infomation to the Flight
DirectorIAutopilot, if installed).

6 Course Select Knob Positions Course Arrow on Compass Card.

7 Heading Select Knob Positions Heading Marker on Compass Card.

8 ADFIMI This switch is used to select ADF or RMI bearing to be


Selector Switch displayed by the ADFIRMI pointer.

9 Compass Card Indicates the magnetic heading of the aircraft when read
under the Lubber Line.

10 TO - FROM Flag Displays whether course is TO or FROM a VOW station.

B1 COMPASS flag Indicates a defective compass system, and is also displayed


during inanual or automatic alignment.

B2 Selected Course Arrow: The course arrow indicates the selected course and is
controlled by digital course selection.

13 ADFlRMI Pointer Indicates either VOR- RMI course or ADF BEARNG.
