Dynasty
The High God Di and The Shang The Shang Dynasty are the first recorded dynasty to
rule over Ancient China. They were people of intellect, higher power, and prophecies.
What they are most known for are their oracle bones. These were either made of tortoise
shell or cattle scapula. As to why they chose these specific animals and bones, whether it
was a religious, or symbol for a deity or could have been a large population of these
animals, no one knows. The king would attend the ritual of the divination by fire, where
he would ask the deities a question as to why a specific event had occurred or a demand,
such as requesting a fertile year. The diviner would then answer the question or demand
translated through the cracks after setting the inscribed bone into the fire. These
translations could then say whether the gods were pleased, displeased, the reason a
certain event or disaster occurred. The deity the Shang King would mostly contact
through these oracle bones was the the Higher God, Di.
The relationship with the Shang and Di, the High God, based on the analysis of the oracle
bones was less paternal in the sense that the Chinese did not see their god as benevolent.
The Chinese viewed Di and the others as to be feared, but also to be respected. The
deities to the Shang were hierarchical, in the way they did not per say love the Shang the
way Christians see their god. However, worshipping Di, such as sacrifices and holding

It was a rainy April 1st when Jess was born. The irony of her being born on April Fools
Day was tremendous. Why? Well, because everyone thought she was just a big old joke.
Ever since she was young her parents never seemed to bother to care about her. One
particular time Jess remembers is when her parents forget to wake her up to go to
