Total marks / Total des points / Puntuación total 29

Criterion A / Critère A / Criterio A:

11
Marks awarded / Points attribués / Puntuación asignada

Command of language is mostly accurate and effective. The candidate speaks fluently, with a wide vocabulary (“open-
roof double-decker bus”, “desertification”, “an open mindset”), including some effective use of idioms (“we are a far cry
from a green revolution”). However, the quick succession of “hot potato”, “actions speak louder than words” and “kill two
birds with one stone” seems rather forced and less appropriate.
Basic and complex grammatical structures are managed well. Some minor errors (“supporting our nature”, “interested to
this topic”) and slightly inaccurate pronunciation or intonation (“decades”, “happen”, “harmony”) do not interfere with
communication, but do keep this criterion short of the top mark.

Criterion B1 / Critère B1 / Criterio B1:

6
Marks awarded / Points attribués / Puntuación asignada

The presentation is clear and well organized. The candidate first describes and makes perceptive comments about
details in the image, then moves beyond it to offer personal interpretations in considering the issues of climate change
and protests in the UK, in his home country of Italy, and around the world.
Clear explicit links are made with the target culture.

Criterion B2 / Critère B2 / Criterio B2:

6
Marks awarded / Points attribués / Puntuación asignada

The candidate develops his answers very well in parts 2 and 3.

His points of reference are broad, and he offers personal interpretations—for example, on views he has read on The
Guardian news site compared with information in a Leonardo DiCaprio video on climate change.
When challenged, he is very capable of expanding his answers and defending his point of view. His comments are always
clear and well-considered.

Criterion C / Critère C / Criterio C:

Marks awarded / Points attribués / Puntuación asignada 6

The candidate readily understands and responds to the teacher’s questions thoughtfully and at length.
He often takes the initiative to move the conversation forward, such as his comments on the influence of social media on
young people’s awareness of contemporary issues.
Throughout the examination, he is interested and actively engaged in the conversation.

General Commentary / Commentaire général / Comentario general:

The stimulus picture is appropriate and correctly labelled with the chosen theme and no other text.
The teacher responds to the candidate’s comments with interest. She is appropriately friendly and supportive, but also
challenges him to expand his answers and defend his ideas. This encourages the candidate to properly demonstrate his
facility in managing both the language and the topics.
The timings are well managed, and there is a clear explicit transition between parts 2 and 3.
