जल महाभूत

Definition
• रूप रस स्पर्शवत्पयो द्रव स्निग्धा | वै. द.
• र्ीत स्पर्शवत्याप: | त.सं.

• Dravya which has dravatva & rasa attribute with


samavaya relation is called Jala mahabhoota.

• Shit guna is present as samavaya relation.

• In मनुस्मृस्नत; it is mentioned that Jala mahabhoota which


has the attribute of rasa born out of tejo bhoota.
• Characteristic of Jala : द्रवत्व
• Dominant Mahaguna : सत्व तमो बहुला आप: | सु.र्ा. 1/21

• Acharya Sushruta describes that water is abundant of Sattva-tamo


guna.

• Hence; Prakashatva, the characteristic feature of sattva guna and


downward movement are present in jala.

• जलीय द्रव्य :

• गुण : द्रव. स्निग्ध, र्ीत, मन्द, मृदु, स्नपच्छिल, रस गुण बहुलानी आप्यास्नन

• कमम : उपक्लेद, िेह, बंध, स्नवष्यन्द, मादश व प्रह्लाद कर
Types
• स द्विद्ववधा स्ननत्या अस्ननत्या श्चेस्नत द्वित्या कारणरूपा अद्वित्या
कायमरूपा | तकश संग्रह

• Jala is classified into two types viz. Nitya & Anitya in


tarka samgrah.

• द्वित्य जल : Paramanu of nitya jala seem to be very


minute & in the form of कारण रूप.

• अद्वित्य जल : Anitya jala has a gross element & it is born


out of the combination of the Jala paramanu.
• Hence; it is कायम रूप.

Types of अस्ननत्य रूप जल

1. र्रीर संज्ञक
2. इच्छिय संज्ञक
3. स्नवषय संज्ञक
• शरीर संज्ञक : The watery portion of the body is considered as
र्रीर संज्ञक जल महाभू त.

• इन्द्रिय संज्ञक : Different types of tastes which are perceived by


the Rasanendriya is called as indriya sangyaka.

• द्ववषय संज्ञक : The water which is present in the external


world in the forms of seas, river, lakes etc. is called as Vishaya
sangyaka jala mahabhoota.

• It is further divided into four parts :


• अम्भ, मरीद्वि, मर, आप.
• अम्भ : The water which is present at the above sphere of
the sun.

• मरीद्वि : The water which exists between the surya


mandala & pruthvi is known as Marichi.
• It is influenced by the sun rays.

• मर : The water exists on the surface of the earth like sea


water, river water, lake water etc. is called as mara.

• आप : The water avails under the earth is famous as aap.


It is also called as ground water.
