Dear Parents and Carers,
First of all, a big thank you to all our pupils who helped on our Open Day last Saturday morning. We
had well over 400 families visit the school and we had a number of complimentary comments on the
quality and enthusiasm of our guides and the departmental activities that were on offer. Well done!
We are now in the middle of our five Open Mornings that show Oakwood Park on a typical working day
and we expect a high volume of visits to the school.
We have just finished our Year 7 Parents Evenings which are a little early this year, but we wanted to
focus on the principle of “setting the standards” so we could explain our expectations of excellent work,
attitude and behaviour to our pupils and their parents and carers. I found it a very positive experience.
On display at both evenings were the family projects that Year 7 completed over the summer and I am
incredibly impressed by the high standard of the work and the creative approach of our pupils. The
winners will be announced shortly.
The recent Prefect Cake Sale raised an encouraging total of £144 for their charities of Spadework and
the Air Ambulance.
Congratulations of Ethan Sparks of Year 7 who has just won the British Minibike Championships.
On 2nd November the 6th Form Prefects have a Charity Quiz Night culminating in a University Challenge-
style final. If you want to enter a team please return the reply slip on the letter dated 6th October 2022,
to the Finance Office with payment for the tickets before 31st October.
Arriva Industrial Action

You may be aware that Arriva are planning further industrial action on the following dates:
Wednesday 19th, Thursday 20th and Friday 21st October

Monday 24th, Tuesday 25th, Wednesday 26th, Thursday 27th and Friday 28th October – HALF TERM
Monday 7th, Tuesday 8th, Wednesday 9th, Thursday 10th and Friday 11th November
Thank you to parents and carers for making arrangements to ensure that students can still attend
school, we are aware of, and appreciate the juggling of schedules which makes this possible. Please do
get in touch with your son or daughter’s Director of Study if you envisage any issues regarding your
ability to get them to school on the dates listed above. It will not be possible for staff to set ‘live’ work
for students to complete as they will be teaching students who are in lessons. Please note, Nu Venture
and services provided by other bus operators will continue to run.
Wellbeing at OPGS
Next week the school will be sending out it’s first termly wellbeing newsletter, we hope it gives parents
and carers and insight into what we do at OPGS to support students with their wellbeing and our actions
since students, staff and parents responded to our wellbeing survey. I am pleased to report that Mrs
Williams, Director of Study for Year 13 and our IAG advisor has recently gained her Mental Health First
Aid Award and Ms Bevan, Deputy Headteacher has also gained her Senior Mental Health Lead Award
Finally, Year 11 have their pre-public examinations which run from 7th November until 18th November.
Teachers are in the process of telling pupils what they need to revise and I wish Year 11 good luck but
also want to stress the importance of real and substantial revision as being the only way to guarantee
success.
