Problems due to Pellet charging.

Pellets are thermally agglomerated iron ore fines with addition of some binder/coke/coal dust/dolo.
Final product is fired balls with mean size 11-13 and FE content around 60-63%. Main advantages
being narrow band of size variation, high iron content and high strength. After introduction of pellets
in our burden mix some problems encountered are-

1. Increase in upper zone permeability . Normal value is .35 to.40. After pellet charging this
value increases to .45 to .50.
2. Increase in overall DP(>1.65) causing throttling of blowing parameters and in turn low
production .
3. Decrease in CO utilization is observed for pellet charging causing high Fuel Rate and
decreased production.
