LEARNING PLAN IN MATHEMATICS

Mathematics Grade 6
LESSON 1: Operations, Ratio, and Proportion, Percent, Exponents, and Integers.
(4 Sessions/Days)

Content Standard
The learner demonstrates understanding of order of operations, ratio, and proportion, percent, exponents,
and integers.
Performance Standard
The learner is able to apply knowledge of order of operations, ratio, and proportion, percent, exponents,
and integer in mathematical problems and real-life situations.
Learning Competencies
● expresses one value as a fraction of another given their ratio and vice versa.
● finds how many times one value is a large as another given their ratio and vice versa.
● defines and illustrates the meaning of ratio and proportion using concrete or pictorial models.
● sets up proportions for groups of objects or numbers and for given situations.
Unit Summary:
In this unit, the students will express one value as fraction of another given their ratio and vice versa, finds how
many times one value is a large as another given their ratio and vice versa, define and illustrates the mening of
ratio and proportion using concrete or pictorial models and lastly sets up proportions for groups of objects or
numbers and for given situations.
The student will be able to relate all the sa competencies in real-life situations to identify the ratio and
proportion. In this unit students will be introduced to ratios and proportions. Students will have practice
identifying ratios from pictures, graphs, models and word problems. Using these skills, students will then be
able to identify proportional ratios and use ratios to describe proportional situations as well as to predict
outcomes. Students will be grouped and are expected to be cooperative, creative, and innovative for the success
of their task.

EXPLORE
Day 1
I. OBJECTIVES: (SMART/COGNITIVE-PSYCHOMOTOR/AFFECTIVE)- ICT INTEGRATION
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
1. Recognize that the relationship between two quantities can be shown using ratios and fractions;
2. Use concrete objects or draw pictorial models to show the relationship between ratios and
fractions; and
3. Express one value as a fraction of another given their ratio and vice versa.
II. SUBJECT MATTER:
Topic: Relating Fraction and Ratio
Materials:
Technology-hardware Required: Desktop and Laptop
Technology-software Required: Word File and Powerpoint Presentation

III. PROCEDURES: (Motivation, Review, Discussion, Application, Generalization,

Assessment, and Assignment)

A. Motivation:
ACTIVITY 1. EXPLORE YOURSELF!
Get a piece of paper and fold it over three times. Press it hard to make a crease and open it. Into how
many regions is the paper now divided into?
The paper is now divided into 8 regions. If your shaed 3 parts of it, what part of the whole is shaded?
What fraction does it represent? In the fraction ⅜ , what does the numerator 3 tell us? How about its
denominator 8?
This time, let’s separate the shaded regions from the original regions. Take note that the fraction
presented by the figure ⅜. Can we also say that there are three shaded regions for the set of 8 unshaded
regions? In relation to the figure, what does the phrase 3 is to 8 mean? Does ⅜ also men “3 is to 8?”
B. Lesson Proper:
1. Discussion
2. Activity 2- Write the ratio in the following illustration.
3. Activity 3- Complete in each statement.
4. Activity 4- Group wok on each set of task.
C. Assessment:
D. Multiple Choice Item (Relating Fraction and Ratio)
E. Assignment: (Negotiable)

Day 2
I. OBJECTIVES: (SMART/COGNITIVE-PSYCHOMOTOR/AFFECTIVE)- ICT INTEGRATION
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
1. Identify how many times one value is a large as another given their ratio and vice versa;
2. Match the given ratio to the corresponding equivalent; amd
3. Express the ratio in increasing and decreasing order using multiplication

III. PROCEDURES: (Motivation, Review, Discussion, Application, Generalization,

Assessment, and Assignment)

A. Motivation:
ACTIVITY 1. RATIO BLASTER GAME PAIR!
The ratio blaster is set in astronomical space. There is a launcher that gives clues in the form of a ratio’s
expression. The Player has to match the ratio shown with the corresponding fraction value by aiming and
launching at the correct space vehicle.
Since gameplay continues only till all vehicles remain in space and do not hit the surface below, an element of
time-pressed gaming is added automatically to it. Thus, solve as many options as possible in a limited time.
Play repeatedly to improve the timing as well as score. This game is pure learning and a lot of fun!
B. Lesson Proper:
1. Discussion
2. Activity 2- Check or cross if the ratios are equal or not.
3. Activity 3- Match the given ratio in the column.
4. Activity 4- Fill up the table to express the ratio.
C. Assessment:
Multiple Choice Item
D. Assignment: (Negotiable)

Day 3
I. OBJECTIVES: (SMART/COGNITIVE-PSYCHOMOTOR/AFFECTIVE)- ICT INTEGRATION
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
1. Define ratio and proportion;
2. Use concrete objects or draw pictorials models to illustrate ratios and proportions; and
3. Recognize when two quantities are in proportion

Assessment, and Assignment)

A. Motivation:
ACTIVITY 1: COMPARE!
The model below compares the number of bottles Sobe and Cesca collected one day at the street.
Sobe

Cesca

Direction: Write atlest 5 statements about the model using fractions and ratios.
For Example: The ratio of number of bottles Sobe collected to the number of bottles Cesca collected is 7.

III. PROCEDURES:
A. Motivation: DIRT BIKE GAME!
Dirt Bike Proportions is a game that is the ultimate combination of thrill and learning. You choose your profile
as a bike and it is your equivalent ratio calculating capacity that is going to keep you ahead of the competition
in this game. It is a self-paced game where you can pick the slow or fast option of playing as per your comfort
level. The best strategy to play this game is to start slow, and then reduce the time so that you can practice faster
calculation, quicker thinking, and appropriate reasoning. By choosing the gameplay duration or level of
toughness, as a teacher, you can set your students on a progressive learning path.
