EX5P v2 - EX5 upgrade options

23.03.2017

Some of the devices use old microcontroller PIC16C63A. This component price is high and manufacturer
suggests that we change it as it is at the end of life. Products with this chip are:

1. EX5
2. MTPAD
3. EX5P
4. INOX99
5. VKP99
6. VI200
7. VI200R
8. EX7

To move these products to new microcontroller new hardware and firmware has to be developed.
Development can be done in two ways – new device will be a copy of old one with same terminals and
programming or it will be a new device with upgraded features, programming and terminals.

As more devices are with same functionality, firmware’s has to be developed for three products families:

1. EX5, EX5P, MTPAD, INOX99, VKP99

2. VI200, VI200R
3. EX7

Here are possible upgrades of the group 1 (EX5 base).

1. Make same PCB for EX5 and EX5P. Currently, they use different PCB. Yes
2. Remove 4 terminals for Red and Green LED. This LED’s will be driven from inside. Released
terminals can be used for other functions if necessary. As a master device, LED’s normally should
be driven internally.

Replace two LED with bicolor. One for internal control, other for free tension.

2 bicolor LEDS
3. Codix reader input can be removed. That will be step forward in terminating Codix readers. Yes.
4. Connection for external Wiegand reader or keypad. This will replace Codix input. Second reader
in the setup will provide secure installation. Also in this case EX5 can be used as standalone
controller with one reader input. No.
5. RS485 line for RTT, DINRTT. This would enable secure installation. However, secure installation
can be achieved also with external reader/keypad input so the best is to select between RS485
and reader input. Yes
6. User capacity can be increased to more than 99 users. Ideally to 999. Yes
7. Reader compatibility. Reader can be configurable to read EM, HID, AWID, Casi (for UTC version)
or maybe NXT (Keri). Yes
8. RS485 Line for IO0408 board. This would enable expansion to 8 relays as a possible replacement
for EX7. Expansion can be with more IO boards, but that will lead to complex programming
menu. This option is in collision with point 5 which is not necessary if external reader connection
is present. Yes, same line as for RTT

When decision is made about options, we can proceed with making programming menu.
