I. Animal Shelter
II. The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS)
III. Project Rationale
People assume that animal shelters are created to reunite pets with their
owners or help them get adopted. However, animal shelters provide many other
services for their community. Animal shelters keep streets clean and safety
preventing the spread of infectious diseases from animals to humans. Animal control
personnel in association with law enforcement officers pick up, impounds, and
disposes of stray animals that irresponsible owners release in the streets. One of the
many services that animal shelters offer is follow-up bite reports to provide important
details relevant to the prosecution and the defense of a dog bite case. They also
have public educational programs for people in the community to create awareness
and increase involvement in animal care and animal control in their community.
IV. Project Objectives
1. Reducing the overpopulation of street dogs through sterilization /spaying
programs and local adoptions.
2. Operating a rescue center for puppies and dogs.
3. Information to dog owners about sterilization, medical care, taking them along
with us to the vet, showing people how to show affection through gentle play and
petting.
4. Reducing death rate by helping people understand that there are solutions other
than killing dogs.
5. School education activities to make the younger generation more aware of
animal welfare.
V. Project Description
This community project will help the people in the community especially the
stray dogs and cats roaming around the community. Animal shelters play a vital role
in our communities as they continuously work to reunite pets with their owners,
shelter those in need and find new homes for animals that are lost, without a
permanent home or for those animals that, for our own security, shouldn’t be
roaming our streets.
VI. Project Duration: 1-2 Years
VII. Target Beneficiaries: People in the community and stray animals
VIII. Proposed Budget: Around 6-7 Million
IX. Narrative Report
Animal shelters provide numerous benefits to their communities. These
facilities work to humanely address the issues of animal control with spaying and
neutering services and keep the community safe from dangerous animals. Animal
shelters work with the community to match pets with loving homes through their
adoption services and provide veterinary services at a reduced price once the
adoption is finalized. Shelters also often maintain a firm commitment to educating the
local community on the matters of pet care, animal safety, immunizations and
disease control.
