Dear Ms. Eva Smith,

I am writing to express my interest in the entry-level Officer position with the South Carolina
Department of Natural Resources. I am currently a senior at Coastal Carolina University, and on
track to graduate in the Fall of 2024, with a Bachelor of Science in Recreation and Sport
Management.

Our southern way of life embraces respectful hunting and fishing which is something I desire to
share with others while educating and protecting those who share my passion for these activities.
I have been working to develop multiple skill sets in this area these past few years while working
on our different local waterways, as well as, experiencing local forests and marshlands. I have
come to understand that protection and management takes a team approach with different areas
of expertise all working toward the same goal.

While working at Crazy Sister Marina, I have enjoyed learning and understanding the livelihood
of local charter captains and commercial fishermen, as well as the need to protect and respect the
local fish population for future fishing seasons. My Marina experience has grown my confidence
in educating others who are inexperienced about waterway safety. Safety and respect for the
Inlet, the Ocean, as well as Rivers and Lakes, add to your enjoyment of them. During my time at
Coastal Carolina University, I have been an active member of the Kappa Alpha Order, and
served as brotherhood committee chair for 2 semesters. I was also one of the founding members
of the Coastal Carolina Disc Golf club, where I served as Vice President.

Respect for our environment is something I have been taught to practice throughout my life and
something that I enjoy sharing with others, especially those who share my concern for it. It is my
passion and my goal to ensure our forests and waterways will be healthy and prosperous for
future generations of South Carolinians. I believe my experiences at CCU and at the several
Marinas have been instrumental in growing my personal confidence and leadership skills, and, I
believe I could be an asset to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. Thank you
for your consideration, I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Robert D’Andrea
