The Case of the Missing Ring

Episode 10 : Closing the Case

Recap
In Episode 9, Detective Bossley stopped Emma before she could jump into a taxi. Emma confessed
to “borrowing” the ring, but the detective is sure there is more to the story.
Let’s read the rest of their conversation and find out if Emma has a partner
in crime...

Detective’s Tip
Reread the first half of the dialogue (Episode 9) before moving on to the final

lesson.

Ulterior Motive
An ulterior motive is a second (or true) reason or purpose for doing something. It is like an extra
motive and it is usually hidden from the person who needs to know it. Detective Bossley thought he
was hired to find the missing ring. He didn’t realize that one or more of the suspects had an
ulterior motive. Read the last part of the dialogue to figure out who had an ulterior motive and
why.
