HYPERTENSION MEDICINE ON ELDERLY IN MELATI INTEGRATED HEALTHCARE

ABSTRACT

Hypertension on elderly is a chronic disease which also called silent killer. Elderly with
hypertension for a long time will decrease the quality of elder life, they will need an assistance
from other people to give a support to make them comfortable in life. A family is most important
support system needed by an elderly to cope with hypertension. A purpose of this research is to
find a correlation between family support and obedience to taking a hypertension medicine on
elderly people.

The type used in this research is quantitative with analytic research design and cross
sectional approach. The Population in this research is all elderly with hypertension as much as 43
elder, and sampling technique used purposive sampling. The researcer used a questionnaire with
chi square test as a research instrument.

The analytic result used by chi square got p-value 0,000(p<0,05). This result show that
there is a correlation between family support and obedience of taking hypertension drug on
elderly. Hypertension patient expected to increase their obedience to taking a medicine precisely,
get closer to the family so they could be helped to take a medicine and regularly check their
health status in elderly integrated healthcare service
