ALLELE- Alternative forms/versions of a gene recognized by phenotype (RR, Rr, rr)

AUTOSOMES- refers to the body chromosomes, similar in both male and female.

CLASSIFICATION- method of grouping organism. Arranging entities into some type of order to provide a system for cataloguing and expressing
relationship between these entities.

DNA- repository of genetics information – sequence of bases encodes the blueprint of life processes.

FILIAL- denoting the generation or generations after the parental generation.

GENETICS- scientific study of heredity and variation

GENOTYPE- gene pair an individual carries for a particular trait symbolized with a pair of letters – genetic make-up of phenotype (PP, Pp, pp)

HEREDITY- transmission of traits from one generation to the next generation

HETEROZYGOUS DOMINANT- with one (1) dominant allele and one (1) recessive allele (Dd)

HYBRIDIZATION- the mating or crossing of two true-breeding varieties.

LINNAEUS- Swedish physician and botanist who sought to classify life’s diversity, in his words, “for the greater glory of God”. Developed the
two-part, or binomial, format for naming species (such as Homo sapiens for human)

MENDEL- ‘’ Father of Genetics’’, responsible for the LAWS, governing Inheritance of traits.

NOMENCLATURE- the formal naming of taxa according to some standardized system, refers to the practice of assigning scientific names. For
plant naming are provided by the Botanical Nomenclature and for the animals is Zoological Nomenclature

NUCLEODTIDE- A nucleotide is the basic building block of nucleic acids (RNA and DNA).

PALEONTHOLOGY- GEORGE CUVIER a French scientist who develop the study of fossils

SYSTEMATICS- a discipline focused on classifying organisms and determining their evolutionary relationship

TAXA/TAXON- taxonomic unit at any level of the hierarchy
