Dear Sir or Madam,

I would like to be considered for the R&D Process Design Engineer role at Cargill.

I am an enthusiasNc young Process Engineer with four years of experience in the chemical and oil and gas
industries. I currently work in the process engineering team at UnitBriwelco, where I am responsible for the
independent design of a mulNtude of process engineering packages and unit operaNons as part of mulN-
million pound capital projects; including heat exchangers, pumps, fans, vessels, fired heaters, and flare
systems. I have developed a strong working knowledge of process engineering fundamentals, and regularly
undertake generaNon of key engineering documents such as equipment data sheets, control philosophies,
cause and effect charts, and process engineering studies. I also have extensive site experience, including
work in conNnuous improvement, operaNons support, commissioning, and capital projects involving
hazardous areas and COMAH sites.

Joining the team at Cargill would be greatly beneficial to both my immediate personal development and
future career as a process engineer. I wish to work in an environment that will present me with a wide
range of challenges, whilst at the same Nme providing a pla\orm to apply my strong process engineering
knowledge to soluNons that have a posiNve impact society we live in whilst ensuring sustainability. Cargill
suits this role perfectly, as joining an innovaNve, environmentally conscious company provides me with an
ideal transiNon to a more sustainable industry, whilst also enabling me to achieve my aspiraNons of
becoming a chartered engineer. Your company’s contribuNon to the United NaNons Sustainable
Development Goals via donaNon of 2% of earnings to the support of local communiNes and social/
environmental causes is an example of a company not only succeeding financially, but reducing the impact
modern industry has on the world we live in. This sort of pioneering development is what makes Cargill
respected and dominaNng market leaders, and inspires me to work in such an environment where both
innovaNve problem solving and responsibility is encouraged.

I have proven myself as extremely academically able, and have achieved a high first class bachelors degree
in Chemical Engineering from the University of Birmingham with an average grade of 80%, placing me first
in my academic year. Over the past two years I also undertook an IChemE accredited masters degree in
chemical engineering whilst working, in which I achieved a disNncNon. This will enable me to apply for
IChemE chartership within the next twelve months: my main professional goal at this stage in my career. I
pride myself on a dedicated, posiNve aetude to work whilst having an appreciaNon for good Nme
management, team work and a healthy work-life balance.

Yours sincerely,

Oliver Horton
