Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is a comprehensive software

solution that covers various business functions. It enables businesses

to integrate all their operations, including manufacturing, accounting,
human resources, customer relationship management, inventory
management, supply chain management, warehouse management,
system analytics and reporting, asset management, and order
management into a centralized system. ERP systems help
organizations to streamline their processes and provide real-time data
access across departments. This results in increased efficiency and
better decision-making capabilities. By adopting an ERP system,
businesses can gain significant advantages, including reduced
operating costs, enhanced productivity, improved inventory
management, better customer service, and increased profitability.

Talking about the customization of ERP for WAPDA. When

implementing ERP in WAPDA, certain functionality didn’t exist in the
software, so we had to build it from scratch. Changes were made to
certain features as they were extended and modified as per the
requirements of WAPDA. This required deep technical and product
knowledge of the system. All the customizations were unique to
WAPDA solution, and new features were added to meet their
requirements.

Now let’s discuss the benefits of ERP in WAPDA. The implementation
of ERP has eliminated duplication, discontinuity, and redundancy in
data. It provides information across departments in real-time, giving
better control over various business processes. ERP has also increased
productivity, improved inventory management, promoted quality,
reduced material costs, and boosted profits. ERP has enabled better
interaction with all departments of WAPDA, improving services.

In terms of the cost incurred for implementing ERP in WAPDA, a

significant portion, 43%, was allocated towards re-engineering the
system to meet WAPDA’s specific requirements. Software, data
conversion, and training and change management each accounted for
15% of the total cost. The remaining 12% was spent on other
expenses.

Let’s talk about the centralized ERP system in WAPDA. Data is now
maintained at a central location and shared with various departments
within WAPDA. Departments within WAPDA now have access to
information from each other. The decision-making process for the top
management of 16 departments has been made easier with the
centralized ERP system.

Finally, let’s look at the different ERP components in WAPDA. These

include financial management, business intelligence, inventory
management, operation and maintenance management, and payroll
modules. Financial Management is responsible for managing the
financial transactions of WAPDA. Business Intelligence provides
analytical capabilities to the system, which helps in making informed
decisions. Inventory Management ensures the proper handling of
inventory levels, and Operation and Maintenance Management
focuses on managing the operational aspects of WAPDA. Finally,
Payroll Modules help to manage employee payroll and benefits.
Together, these ERP components have enabled WAPDA to function
more effectively and efficiently, resulting in improved services and
increased productivity.
