Assignment #4 (Excel API and Bloomberg Market Concepts)

There are two parts for this assignment.

Part 1. Excel API – Fetching Company Data 50%

The objective of this task is to retrieve customized set of data directly from
Bloomberg using Excel API functions. An Excel spreadsheet template will be
provided, and which is to be completed and filled in DURING the class.

You have to use Bloomberg Excel API functions to retrieve the relevant data
and make it presentable to other users of the information.

For certain parts, you are required to use Excel 365 functions to complete the

Details of how to do it will be demonstrated during the class in the practical lab

Part 2. Bloomberg Market Concept (BMC) 50%

The Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC) is an e-learning course provided by


Bloomberg. You will learn how to use the various functions of the Bloomberg
Terminal to analyze and navigate through the financial markets.
Students do not need to come back to the Bloomberg Trading Lab to sign up.
Bloomberg now allows students to sign-up for BMC even from home provided
you must use your university email ID (@hsu.edu.hk email account).

A pay screen may appear, but the amount will be $0 if you used your school
email and so nothing has to be paid.

Once you have an account (or if you already have a login before), you can log
in regularly at https://portal.bloombergforeducation.com/login to access the
BMC course

#for those who have registered with and done certain modules of the BMC
before:
you may just login from the login page, using your university email.
Remember to click “Add Class” to enter the new Class Code provided
above. If you forgot your password, ask for reset. If you did not use your
university email to register in the past, you have to create a new one now with
your university email in order to work from your own browser.

Required Tasks

You have to complete the following 2 courses in BMC:

• Bloomberg Terminal Basics (about 2 hours)


o Learn the fundamentals of navigating the Bloomberg Terminal through
real-world examples. You will learn how to use some basic Bloomberg
functions to analyze equity and fixed income markets.
• Core Concepts – Economic Indicators (about 1.5 hour)
o Discover the regiment upon which economic indicators are published and
analyzed.
o We covered similar materials in Topic 4A

If you have done and completed the Terminal Basics before, it is optional
whether you re-watch it or not.

There are no quizzes for Terminal Basics, but while you are progressing
through the Economic Indicators course you will be asked about some
interactive questions, finish them and you may progress ahead. These
questions will be graded and contribute to the final score for this Economic
Indicators section

Criteria for Part 2 BMC completion

Status % Correct

• Terminal Basics Completed NA

• Core Concepts – Economic Completed your score for Part 2


Indicators = quiz score * 50%

You must complete all the two courses shown above (status shows “Completed”)
to gain credits for this assignment. If you do not complete the Terminal Basics
part, the quiz score in Economic Indicators will be multiplied by 25% only.
