President Corazon Aquino gave a speech to the US Congress focusing on her late husband Ninoy Aquino and his struggle against the Marcos dictatorship. She linked Ninoy's struggle to the nation's struggle under Marcos, describing the abuse the Aquino family faced after Ninoy's death. Through metaphorical language, she positioned herself as continuing Ninoy's fight against the Marcos regime, justifying the Filipino people's support for her leadership.

“President Corazon Aquino’s Speech before the US Congress”
(September 18, 1986)
President Corry’s speech showed a great deal of respect for his
late husband, former Senator Ninoy Aquino. Her speech went so far as to link the struggle of Ninoy with the struggle of the entire nation under Marcos. Her speech focused on the harrowing experience of the Aquino family, how they grieved their loss, and how the government abused them. She made no mention of her positive contributions from the Marcos government, focusing only on the negative aspects of the dictator’s so-called tenure. She then used metaphorical language and metaphors to refer to her relationship with the late Mr. Ninoy, whom the Filipino people called the standard-bearer of the anti-Marcos movement, to describe her own presence before the U.S. Congress. Justified and satisfied the Filipino people.
