REFLECTION about Leon O Ty’s “it’s Up to you know” and the magsaysay’s myth
Presented by Mr. Myrich Java vasquez
Leon O. Ty's "It's Up to You Know" is a powerful essay that emphasizes the importance
of personal responsibility and individual action in creating positive change in society. Ty
argues that instead of relying on external forces or blaming others for our problems, we
should take ownership of our lives and work towards improving ourselves and our
communities.

The essay resonates with me because I believe that we often underestimate the power
of our own actions. It's easy to feel overwhelmed by the world's problems and think that
our individual efforts won't make a difference. However, as Ty points out, it's the
collective actions of individuals that can create significant change.

The Magsaysay's myth, on the other hand, is a cautionary tale about the dangers of
putting too much faith in charismatic leaders. The myth is based on the idea that the
Philippines was once a prosperous and just society under the leadership of President
Ramon Magsaysay, and that the country's subsequent decline was due to the lack of a
similarly charismatic leader.

While it's true that leadership plays an important role in shaping a society, the myth
overlooks the importance of institutional and systemic factors in creating lasting change.
A society's success or failure depends on a complex network of factors, including
economic policies, social structures, and cultural norms.

Overall, both Ty's essay and the Magsaysay's myth highlight important aspects of social
change. Ty reminds us of the power of individual action, while the Magsaysay's myth
reminds us to approach social issues with a critical and nuanced perspective.
