Understanding Earthquake Geology

Earthquakes are among the deadliest natural hazards, killing many people each year. They occur without warning in areas with high population densities, which can lead to catastrophic loss of life and economic damage when large quakes strike. An earthquake is the shaking of the Earth caused by the sudden release of built-up energy in the lithosphere. Earthquakes can range greatly in size, from small undetectable tremors to violent quakes that can destroy entire cities. The main causes of earthquakes are the movement of tectonic plates via processes like seismically active plate boundaries and faults in the Earth's crust.

Geology

INTRODUCTION
Earthquakes are among the most deadly natural hazard. There are around 100 earthquakes each year of
a size that could cause serious damage. They strike without warning and many of the earth’s earthquake
zones coincides with areas of high population density. When large earthquakes occur in such areas, the
results can be catastrophic, with terrible loss of human lives and untold economic cost.

What is earthquake?
An earthquake is the shaking of the surface of the Earth, resulting from

the sudden release of energy in the Earth’s lithosphere that creates seismic

waves. Earthquakes can range in size from those that are so weak that they

cannot be felt to those violent enough to toss people around and destroy whole

cities. The seismicity or seismic activity of an area refers to the frequency, type

and size of earthquakes experienced over a period of time.

The tpes of earthquake was also discussed by other groups yesterday. The types of earthquake are
tectonic, volcanic, collapse and explosion.

what causes earthquake to happen

slip faults can be

plate tectonics

They move few centimeters per year, but this still cause a huge amount of deformation at the plate
boundaries, which inturn rresults in earthquake .

Divergent (Spreading):This is where two plates move away from each other
Convergent (Colliding): This occurs when plates move towards each other
and collide.
transform-When two tectonic plates slide past each other,

Staad pro- is a software that helps engineers to construct and design

concrete buildings, steel and other designs. I believe that Staad pro is better
than autocad because it is more advance.

These innovation are really helpful especially in the field of engineering

because we design and construct buildings and concrete that can withstand
earthquakes and we ensure the safety of the people.
